Because AOSP Android keyboard is missing, I installed AnySoftKeyboard.
But I run into a problem with spell checking.
Does [System]-[language]-[Tools]-[spell check] not work?
Mine is grey and cannot be accessed. Is there a way to manually install this?

Or…maybe you can install HeliBoard as a system app.
It has lots of ways to customize and even swype if you install the “libjni_latinimegoogle.so” library from the advanced option at the bottom.
I could not add HeliBoard, but at least you have the current version:
