/e/ installé avec easy installer sur GS290... le téléphone ne démarre plus

Hello,

@tyru1’s GS290 is back to life :smile_cat:

Observations:

  • out of the package, it appears as “dead”: black screen, nothing happens when pressing the buttons (no matter which ones and how long you press them)
  • my Qi charging base detects it well when I put it on
  • connected in USB to a Windows PC, we can see that it tries to tell us something:

Getting ready:

  • I took an old PC with Windows 7 and USB 2 out of the closet
    • Windows 7 because the necessary MediaTek drivers (see below) look quite old …
    • USB 2 because for this kind of operation USB 3.x is sometimes a problem (I almost put in the grave a Xiaomi because of that …)
  • also, I grab a well-known working USB cable (a Xiaomi)
  • I downloaded everything recommended by @Anonymous here: https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/backlog/-/issues/3429#note_103731
    • for the drivers, don’t be afraid of weird screens, it’s Chinese  . And wait until the end, especially at the window that scrolls a lot of text (it “cleans” the drivers)
    • for the GS290_10.zip ROM image, I had to be patient and so I made a temporary mirror : Stock GS290 Rom anyone? - #4 by smu44 (it expires in 6 months)
  • during this preparation time, I put the device on USB charge so that it is “fully charged” for the next step (important!)

Action:

  • what I should have done: waited for my second coffee, it would have saved me from forgetting the screenshots …
  • basically, I followed @Anonymous’ good advice again :handshake:
    • what is a bit scary :
      • the device takes a while to be detected when you plug it in after clicking “Download”
      • at the first startup of the device (after flashing), on the first screen appears a small message that indicates an “orange state” because of an unlocked device, and the indication that it will restart in 5 seconds … In fact it won’t, it continues to boot normally

Afterthoughts :

  • a guy would have to try with an updated Windows 10 (21H1) and a USB 3.xx port
  • I quickly tried to use a Linux (SLES), like 90% of the time I gave up because of the drivers and doubts about the quality of the programs
  • I reward myself with a second coffee, if you like this happy ending you can find a more durable mirror for the stock ROM image (see § Getting ready)
