If I understand correctly, according to this, last vendor patch level for the FP4 was supplied in July 25.
As I said, the Stock Android on the FairPhone 3 has updates from July 2025, which is newer than what /e/OS ships (December 2023).
Source: I checked on a FairPhone 3 with Stock Android.
This image from your link
shows the Android SPL for that build. Notice scrolling that thread the way that the SPL upgrades every month and is a link to the Android security bulletin.
It was shown in the thread linked by @smilingoctopus Post #18 that Fairphone Vendor SPL only updates roughly mostly annually, seemingly with Android version upgrade.
You are looking at the security patch level, the vendor patch level is something different.
Settings - About phone - Android version (tap/click on it) ⌠Thereâs âAndroid security updateâ (security patch level) and âVendor security patch levelâ (vendor patch level).
Indeed. Sorry, I was struck with blindness and missed it.
The mismatch of vendor patches for the FP3 and FP4 should be resolved in the v3.1.4 which we expect to release early next week.
⌠seems to be July 2025, too, on the stock OS (for the sake of completeness).
This is the community build. The official build is still on Android 13, and unpatched since December 2023.
This two-year old ticket here about the PDF viewer being unmaintained and not receiving security updates is also still open.
Disclaimer: I donât have a phone that is supported by the newest version of /e/ so I canât verify if the issue is still relevant.
On 3.1.1-a15-20250829521742-community-ocean
I see for PDF Viewer
Version 15
org.lineageos.camelot
Thatâs the lineage PDF viewer, which would imply that the problem has since been addressed.
Though there is a comment on the ticket from a month ago claiming that the situation hasnât changed. Strange.
Regarding the PDF Viewer (or any app where it is possible), I believe that the best is to not rely on /e/OS and instead install an app yourself. There are enough maintained PDF apps to choose from.
Itâs problematic when we cannot handle it ourselves, like for the webview or the vendor updates. I am honestly a little disappointed to realise that I would have been better off with the Stock Android in the last two years in that regard.
As the system is aimed to be a viable option for the general public, not just people like us who know this can be an issue, I believe all parts that ship with the system need to be secure.
I expect this situation to improve as the project grows and matures. I imagine the team had their hands full getting the base functionality in place, making the interfaces of various app forks feel like a cohesive system and so on.
I agree. But if they canât keep up with apps (like a PDF viewer, where a simple solution would be to remove it from the default apps and let the users download one), I donât see how they could keep up with the vendor updates for all the devices they claim to support.
I have been using /e/OS for 4.5 years now, and my experience is that it has gotten worse. They seem to have moved to supporting their Murena phones, leaving other devices outdated for years.
I also started having issues with microG months ago, and I donât expect that this will be resolved. I have an FP3, which is not EOL and therefore keeps receiving updates with the Stock Android. I recently compared with a friend who is on the Stock Android and realised that I should have moved back there years ago.
Hi, my Teracube 2e Emerald Stable purchased from Murena, unless Iâm mistaken, has only had software updates, no security updates, since March 2025. I hope for a fix and/or a quick upgrade.
Best regards
@klm7: Seems like you havenât received a vendor security update since June 2022 .
The question then is whether /e/OS dropped the ball (like for the FP3 and FP4, as discussed above) or if the vendor (Emerald Stable?) stopped pushing security updates 3 years ago⌠Do you have a way to check that?
You mean what exactly
I mean that for the FP3, /e/OS hasnât shipped the vendor security updates for 2 years (though the Stock Android has them), and apparently for the FP4 they havenât for 1 year. This screenshot from @klm7 shows a Murena device that hasnât received vendor updates for more than 3 years.
The FP3 and FP4 vendor patches are being updated with v3.1.4
