Echo on voice calls - Pixel 7

Good catch. If return is an option I think you should contact the seller. Edit, assuming that the test was on “clean”

Latest Android 15 is flashed. BP1A.250505.005.B1

(not /e/OS “install in progress”).

I did not go on to Install /e/OS From Recovery, but tested for echo after completing these 3 steps:

  1. Flashed Android 15 (BP1A.250505.005.B1) from Google.
  2. Flashing Additional Partitions
  3. Installing a Custom Recovery Using fastboot

Does that not seem “clean”?

Return/exchange is an option if I can get bootloader locked again. Seller wants me to test on a different carrier if possible before returning.

I think not.

Whether you return or not I suggest a test on an “all up to date” unmodified system is the right way to do a hardware test.

OK. At this point I am most interested in knowing if it is a hardware problem. Part of learning :slightly_smiling_face:

/e/OS Rollback points me here:

Factory Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices | Google Play services | Google for Developers

After that it should be a clean test?

Looks like I’ve ruled out that a glitch during /e/OS install may have left Pixel 7 with an echo. Reverted back to stock Android and echo persists.

  1. I rolled back the Pixel 7 - Flashed to stock Android 15 (BP1A.250505.005.B1)
  2. Tested for echo while bootloader unlocked. Phone still had echo on the other end.
  3. Locked bootloader and tested for echo. Phone still has echo on the other end.
  4. Same as running /e/OS…I hear no echo on the Pixel, other end has distinct echo, echo goes away when I switch to speakerphone.

Can this be anything but a hardware problem at this point?

Just for clarity, do you mean the echo disappears for the person called when you change to speakerphone?

Correct, the echo is always on the other person’s end who I call with the Pixel (or who calls the Pixel with their phone). They hear an echo of their own voice.

When I switch the Pixel to speakerphone, the person on the other end hears no echo of their own voice.

(I did see that post on echoing and checked all those, some with AT&T tech support rep. Seller responded to me that this is rarely a phone problem - rather it is usually a SIM or carrier issue. I am going to try a borrowed SIM from another carrier when I find one).

I am skeptical of it being a SIM or carrier issue in light of the echo going away when I switch to speakerphone.

Maybe so, except more likely a poorly repaired / refurbished one. (Probably best not to make accusations though.)

In your case to the seller you might use that Google support topic to tick off and describe your results of tests they suggest re signal strength etc.

I agree that when a switch on the device changes the problem it rather suggests that the problem is on the device rather than in the transmission.

Thanks. I will give it a go. Depending on return, I could be back with a different phone :slightly_smiling_face:
