At the risk of being mentioned elsewhere in the Forum. It would be nice to be asked at the first start of /e/ which shop you want to install. The original /e/-appstore could be selected by default and a dialog could be selected, which is marked as “expert settings” for example.
If you open this dialog, you can see a hint to the corresponding functions and a warning that you keep the default setting if you are not technophile (Mums & Dads). F-Droid should be displayed as an alternative and Aurora is also welcome. You may also be able to install it in addition to the original /e/-appstore.
Since F-Droid can include additional repositories, see for example https://forum.f-droid.org/t/known-repositories/721, you can also opt out of the original store if you are not a mum & dad.

yes this is the plan currently at /e/ as i understand it, that people will get a choice for which version of the /e/ OS to install:
- Default: for the “mums and dads”
- Open-source: with f-droid and all FOSS
- “James Bond”: with apps like Silence for messaging and apps by the Guardian Project
- Barebones: for developers, with only the bare minimum of apps installed
