UnifiedPush, but developers must adopt it
My Question:
Why don’t you focus on just a few devices so that they can be supported more intensively and updated promptly?
It can’t be that my Fairphone 5, newly purchased from Murena in 2023, is still on Android 13. Why not, for example, 3 or 5 proven devices with e/OS instead of dozens with different challenges?
Because Murena is also about freedom and not severe restrictions? They have a list with “official phones”: Smartphones – Murena – deGoogled phones and services
That they don’t provide the support you expect is another matter. My guess is things will improve in the near future on that front.
I’m glad that Murena supports many other phones; otherwise they would have a lot fewer users…
I’ve been an e/OS user since the end of 2021 - and from what I’ve seen, it’s not getting better, but much worse. I’m pretty sure that either Murena will focus on a few reliable devices (like GrapheneOS, for example), or it will hardly be possible to maintain an acceptable system with the available resources!
Afaik only devices with Official builds has a ROM maintainer, that is 20 of 220 devices.
For devices where we do not have a dedicated ROM Maintainer we build using our automated build infrastructure
I agree that there are too many phones “supported”… still focusing only on just a few will be detrimental to the number of users…
Let’s wait and see what the event will have as new data. Since Murena is branching into business territory my take is that the financing will get to the next level and so the quality of their products and services.
The ‘supported’ devices are mostly lineage, every device has his own image files for radio, etc but the OS is programmed once and everything else is mostly run by a script. Keeping the own /e/OS apps, etc compatible is the actual work. Programming all OS OTA upgrades for all devices with official comes on top of that then.
I use community build and I am surprised that there are not more problems I encounter with over time, I guess it also depends on expactions (what apps one uses and prefers)
Not for much longer…
On the matter of Magic Earth, are there any plans to either
- convince the developers to open-source the application, or
- use a different application, such as Organic Maps, and customize it for your needs?
Magic Earth has traffic data, Organic Maps has not, and apparently it’s not simple to implement in an idealistic way.
So no more Teracube? Because I don’t see it here
Hi.
After reading multiple thread on the forum I understand better that e/OS builds depend on developpers who port lineage builds to specific devices.
I have a question for the livestream :
Could e.foundation find more partners (individuals or collective, company, etc.) to invest together money and strategical efforts on an IA dev-model (existing or prototyped) that builds semi-automatic (faster/easier) versions of e/OS for a larger amount of devices (old tablets/smartphones) ?
It would be awesome that lot of near-poor people or middle-class people in the world could use “affordable or unused” older/current tablets as well as reconditionned or second-hand tablets to worthily study at school, play, chat, talk or use them as cash register/device for their shop and so on. There are so many e-waste producted by our profit-driven economical system that are still usefull for many people.
I love the work that e.foundation made so far. You give hoop in this dark 21 Century. Thank you for the e/OS project that I strongly believe in.
My question:
I bought a Murena Fairphone 5, and I am incredibly disappointed by the lack of support. Development is behind, especially the official OTA updates:
- MicroG is one version behind, with the last release from one month ago.
- The Android security update is still from March: two months of delay and many vulnerabilities not patched.
- The system is still based on LineageOS 20 (Android 13), while LineageOS 21 (Android 14) came out 15 months ago, and LineageOS 22.1 (Android 15) five months ago.
Why did you choose to focus resources on the new features you present with this live, instead of providing important security updates to your users?
Hello @Qualitros-Rombo, Welcome to the /e/ forum.
Thanks to users who share Unofficial Builds and Custom Builds
(specially the most productive of them @ronnz98)
we are able to install /e/ on many more devices than the Official and Community Builds released by the e.foundation…
.
Search for your device in the Unofficial Builds category
.
Search for your device in the Custom Builds category

Will it be possible to connect a fp 5 to a car with this new version of /e/os?
Can anything be said regarding the status of a possible Desktop Mode in the near or distant future?
