GS290 No recognition on PC

Hello everybody.

I purchased a used GS290 in pretty good shape because I wanted to test the autoinstaller /e/ offers.

Well … the device is not recognised via USB. I tried Linux and Win10.
Developer options are activated, debugging and filetransfer via USB is cative but nothing happens.
Does anybody have a hint or an idea what I could have done wrong?

Is it possible to install /e/ from the SD card?

Thank you so much
Thorsten

Hello @16locke,
on Windows, this is a first indication of a missing USB driver for GS290 [GX290].

On your Windows PC also check status of Device Manager > Android … Device.

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately there is no device recognition from Win or Linux.
Tried my Mi Mix2 with the cable, gets recognised right away.

Is there a way to install /e/ via SD?

This can only be done with a custom recovery.img Only one of the two would have to be installed first using fastboot. But this again needs a connection to the PC …
.

So if the device does nor show up on the connection I can forget to put /e/ ?
Such a pity …

There must be a technical reason why no connection is established. This isn’t normal!

Replace your USB cable and/or make sure that you only use a USB 2.0 port on the PC.

Thank you, did that already.

Used some different cables on different computers on different ports …

I have a new GS290 and installed eOS without problem via Win10.

  • did you upgrade to Android 10 already? You will have to do that anyhow before installing eOS.

  • Can yo describe what exactly you do to connect to the Windows PC ?

Good morning.

Android 10 is installed.
I plug in the phone and wait for recognition but nothing happens.
There is no entry in the device list in system settings.

The device does not get initialised.

There is not so much you can do wrong in my oppinion.

Did you set, on the phone the USB Preferences to File Transfer ?
If in Windows, you open File Explorer, go to Devices and drives, do you see the GS290 ?

After that, I did everything that is on https://doc.e.foundation/devices/GS290/install. It worked.
One thing was not perfect in the instructions. After:

  • Become “developer” on the phone: Settings > About Phone > Build Number or Version > Tap seven times
  • Allow USB debugging (second alternative) : Settings > System > Developer options > USB Debugging (enable it here)

Then do:

  • Settings > System > Developer options > OEM unlocking. Allow the bootloader to be unlocked. (not in instructions, done this anyhow.)

For the rest, it was as described in the manual.

Sugit, somehow I did all that before… the OEM unlocking did the job in the end.

Now I can see the device in the explorer.

Thank you very much.
