How can I update /e/?

Hello community

How can I update the OS on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2? Currently I have /e/OS 0.9-2020051554230 installed.

When I go to System-Updates, download and try to install the latest version, I get the message that when I click OK, the device will start in recovery mode. However, in the information area at the top I only get a triangle with an exclamation point in it saying “Installation error”. Nothing else.

What am I doing wrong? Sorry, if this a stupid question. I am a noob.

PS: Can I do an installation with the new OS file from recovery mode without loosing program data like emails, etc?

Yes, that’s a ‘dirty flash’. But best is, when first make a backup with twrp and store it on externalSD or PC.
