Installing e/os on Fairphone: is the android version important?

In term of tips I did follow really carefully all the steps in the guide here: Install /e/OS on a Fairphone FP5 - “FP5”

The only other stepbI took is I have followed thrle guidance regarding updating Window drivers from here: Web installer | Install | GrapheneOS (see below screen capture)

And the guidance provided here: Installing E/OS on FP5 with Web Installer Fails "Error on step: connect-bootloader - #26 by 0_xavier_0

@mihi true!! :clap:

THANK YOU @0_xavier_0 !
Really valuable information. My FP5 arrives tomorrow and now I have everything I need ready to begin the installation.
One last question: once I am about to be done and I want to relock the bootloader, if I execute the command fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability and the result is 1, I am good to go, right?

Hi @mlx ,

I have done this command before trying to lock again:
fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability

Response was 1 so I did try to lock the phone and I think I did it but don’t quote me on that as I far from a tech savvy user :joy:

So my phone might hopefully be locked but I’m not sure how to confirm :100:%.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful

Lol, I guess if your phone was bricked we would know by now so I am pretty sure you were successful! :rofl: Thank you for sharing your experience, it helped me a lot! I will post my experience once I am done, hopefully we’ll have another successful story!

Go for it @mlx . Let them all know we can all get back the control over our data. :grin::raised_hands::fist:

Not sure if securiy patches are checked with that. Had one occurence this week with a user where result was 1 and still there was a boot loop :thinking::thinking:.

@mlx ,

Hope the install did go well.

I can report that the update to e/os 2.9 from 2.8 was working well. No issue on my end.

@0_xavier_0 all went well! I have been very busy and ended up installing e/OS yesterday! My FP5 came with Android 14 and the November 2024 security patch and my wife’s FP5 came with Android 13 and the July 2024 security patch I believe. I was successful installing the official 2.8 in both of them. A little bit of anxiety when locking the bootloader but the command fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability returned 1 so I went for it and it worked beautifully!
Now I see 2.9 is available, as you are mentioning! Did you just upgrade your phone from the phone itselfy (OTA updates) or did you have to do the whole process again?

@mihi oh man… It worked for me but if I had known this my anxiety locking the bootloader would have been greater, lol.

Amazing news @mlx . Yes the upgrade was proposed by the phone on the menu (see above screen capture). Was an easy process nothing more difficult than with stock Android.

Hello,

As you seems to have a FairPhone 5 can you say me if you have the fingerprint feature working on /eOS/ 2.9 ?
Settings > Security > Fingerprint

Personally I don’t have it.

Thanks

Hi @kriom,

I don’t use fingerprint but I can see it in the menu:

So perhaps I have got a hardware issue.

Thank you @0_xavier_0 !
Awesome! I might try that next! Thank you for all your help! Hopefully our paths cross again, I feel sad to not be here sharing our progress, lol.

@kriom I have an fp5 and the fingerprint reader works perfectly

Thank you, it will help me to understand my problem.
