yes this is unfortunate. The default app is inflexible - it should just go to the settings what the user prefers and at least treat DCIM differently to respect EXIF date first. Atm it’s on DATE_MODIFIED, not DATE_TAKEN - it used to be even DATE_CREATED - mtime was a compromise to not leave it on ctime.
