Receiving multiple times the same text or MMS

The cellphone tower… I was being half facetious. But it actually could be that one of their servers somewhere is re-sending stored messages or something like that.

@Taurus I will keep you up to date if you agree to?

Yes, please do. This is interesting.
Meanwhile, this is from a troubleshooting guide for a Canadian network, which I just found by searching, so it appears that it happens sometimes:

Thank you!

Interesting guide. As you suggested and as stated in the page you just sent me, I will try to move the SIM card into a different phone to see whenever the problem is coming from my new eOS devices or from the provider

Just my 2 cents … I would always ring the carrier first with the SIM in the problem device. I had to do this once with a “repurposed” phone. The call handler immediately ID’d the SIM and said it would be working within an hour. All good in 10 minutes!

I can’t prove that it stopped because I switched to Signal, but it stopped when I switched to Signal. I didn’t have the problem for five or six months now, same conversation partners, same SIM card, same provider, same antenna tower.

Did this. But you never get a proper answer except pre-worded boilerplate text modules. You are (of course) the first one with that question, we forward this to our second level support (and then you never hear from them again …)

@aibd I did today and they have to forward the case to a specialist to check it. Doesn’t seem it gonna take just an hour for me…

@irrlicht I was surprise by the provider when I phoned today that at least they seemed to care about my problem. Like you I doubt to hear from them again, from previous experiences but I will update my case when I got some news

I will stand by this idea for the time, to let the provider check what happened on their side.

Hi all,

Here are the last hot news about my problem : the network provider performed a reset on my device / SIM Card via the network (not sure what he did exactly). For the time, I don’t receive multiples times the SMS / MMS, as before, anymore.

It’s seems for me the be the solution of my problem but, as usual, the solution of today might not be the one of tomorrow…

Hi all!

Some news about my “resolved” problem…

After the network carrier made the reset, I had no problem for some days with receiving multiple times the same SMS or MMS. It really looked to be the solution. But…

After receiving back a MMS, all my problems regarding that concern came back, with SMS and MMS.

Interesting is that all time, this kind of loop seems to start when receiving a MMS but not with SMS, even afterward the problem affect both. I replied it into the GitLab device receives SMS and MMS again and again (#1991) · Issues · e / Backlog · GitLab

Additionally, I’m now abroad for holidays and I don’t have this problem at all. Looking forward seeing if it will start back while on my native network or not !

Hi all,

I’m back from abroad and here is some news about the topic: Sadly, during my holidays, I did finally receive some looping messages (both SMS and MMS). It starts again while receiving a MMS but then, as usual, the created loop worked for both.

Then it is definitively not a network carrier problem, even if it can solve the problem with a network reset until the next loop appears.

I think it is just a GitLab issue now but the work around works for the time, except if your network carrier is not so reactive to do it.
