We need more freedom for rugged smartphones
Unfortunally these crappy devices don’t have any (re)sources available…
…anyway you can try GSI builds:
[development]
An /e/OS Generic System Image (GSI) has been a long standing request from /e/OS users. In this article, we’ll share details about the official /e/OS GSI, which will be released soon.
We assume that the reader has an average knowledge of technical terms, as there are some peppered across this blog post. It would not be possible to explain all the terms and definitions, though we have attempted to keep the narrative as simple as possible.
What is a GSI ?
Before we jump headlong …
For this type of devices the problem is that there isn’t custom recovery so you can’t install anything.

At least rooting worked fine. Did it with magisk and boot.img from doogeemall.
Thanks for the information about GSI.

From https://unofficialtwrp.com I think I saw an unofficial TWRP.
This might help https://unofficialtwrp.com/category/doogee/

I am sorry but the site is not working with my blockers. I confirm the rooting page comes up easily. I will try another device and see if I get a link.
Building unofficial TWRP is not so hard, if successful it could open the door to GSI!
Try https://unofficialtwrp.com/twrp-3-5-2-root-doogee-s86/
→ unofficial twrp 3.5.2 Root Doogee S86 - twrp unofficial probably requires no adblocker.

What I meant is: it seems to me, that this unofficial twrp is used for rooting the device.
I could root it without twrp.

You could indeed. Rooting is not actually required or expected by /e/ so this is a different issue.
To install GSI or any other custom ROM you are likely to need a custom recovery; as Post #3 .

Ah, ok. Thanks. I think I will try to debloat manually at first. Need this phone for daily use, so GSI may be a bit too experimental.
Yes, my adblock block the domain. I insert it on whitelist maybe is because a twrp not trusted ? Anyway now i can see the main page. I don’t know if it is safe to download .img from it.
