Samsung S7 stuck in boot after changing screen

Thanks for your patience. I know what a driver is. What I don’t understand is what to do when ADB asks for drivers. The normal Windows “driver install wizard” opens, but I was thinking “what drivers, for what? And where are they?”. Does the wizard download them automatically? Unlikely, or so I thought. Also I didn’t know what the drivers were for, found no info on that on the pages where I studied the process. So I didn’t do anything with it.

Just run the wizard and install the drivers. It’s easy. You are just stressing. That’s a normal install wizard.

Ok, I won’t stress… But will the installer automatically find the correct drivers and download them from the net? I mean, that just seems too easy… So easy that I assumed it is impossible.

Don’t be stuck on that. Just run it. It will do everything by itself. It’s a lost of time. Come on ! Then, your phone should be recognized.

the Galaxy s7 is a well known Samsung device…

I tried again, installed the auto selected drivers.
Then run command prompt like we said earlier, adb sideload E:\herolte os…zip
I just chose the zip file, no decompression. Is that ok?
But it still says device not found.

oh oh… that’s a problem… Search on the Samsung site the drivers of your S7. Here is an example but as I don’t know your S7 serial number it may be the wrong one. https://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/?model=N0020700
Check this out too, it’s universal driver for android: https://adb.clockworkmod.com/
Have also a look on forum like this one : https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/179172/adb-not-finding-device-with-galaxy-s8-and-windows-7
If your phone isn’t recognized, it’s either a driver issue or a cable issue, but I think the cable should be okay, so try to change the USB port your cable is plugged in, install drivers…

You could use Linux to perform the sideload. You have to install Android SDK platform tools. General Info (for Linux included) here:

If you want to put /e/ OS or other phone OSes in the future on Samsung phones you can use heimdall on Linux instead of Odin on Windows.
The only tricky part is that you should enter recovery mode ( Volume Up + Home + Power) right after heimdall finishes writing the recovery.

Cooler, I never used Odin on this phone. Did I miss something?

VinK3645, I think it is not a USB cable problem. Something with this phone or drivers. It was extremely difficult to install originally on it (I already said that above). I got help here then also but never managed to do it. Another guy (very skilled IT guy) did it for me.

I think actually I give up on this Samsung. Thanks for your help anyway! Your patience and willingness to help has been amazing! I stay loyal to /e/OS, but will refrain from installations myself in the future. Will buy ready-installed phones. Just got my new Samsung A5 with /e/OS already installed from that guy in Germany mentioned above. I am using it now.

Okay ! So sorry that I couldn’t help you. It’s always difficult to help people far away… I hope you will have a great experience with /e/OS on your new phone. I hope you’re not frustrated, it’s always satisfying to do something by yourself.
Please congratulate this guy for me, as I wasn’t that helpful.
Have a lovely day ! If you find the answer to your problem, please dm me, as it is always interesting to know the final solution.

You have been incredibly helpful and nice! Thousand thanks.
I’m not frustrated, it’s ok. I am very happy with my new Samsung A5. It probably is an old phone but it works well and looks pretty and has a 3,5 mm jack, so it is perfect.
The old phone which we worked on will be scrapped.
I’m recommending /e/OS to everyone I know. Better for “normal” (non techies) to buy pre-installed phones though.
