[UNOFFICIAL BUILD] Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 (clover) for /e/OS T

Following the instructions,

Huge thanks to @ronnz98 for sharing this! Iā€™m quite excited to have found a build of /e/OS for clover (mine is the 8" WiFI-only model), Iā€™ve been wanting to run /e/OS for a long time and I just happened to find this build in a search. Iā€™m happy to report that it seems to work perfectly, no notable bugs so far. This is a much cleaner solution than installing something based on LineageOS and then trying to install Magisk and Lsposed for signature spoofing and then finally MicroG, which is what I was doing before.

The WiFI-only versions of the Mi Pad 4 appear to have some sort of a quirk that causes excessive power drain with the kernel of most custom ROMs. (The only ROMs that didnā€™t have the issue were ArrowOS and MoKee, both of which are now defunct. Those had basically 0% battery drain after 8 hours of standby in airplane mode.) This build inherits that problem from LineageOS 20, so itā€™s not perfect, but the drain is less severe than with something like CarbonROM, and itā€™s manageable at ~3% drain in 8 hours of standby.

Thanks for you feedback! That is very useful for other users and also for me since I might buy a Xiaomi Mi Pad too. Since this device is actively developed chances are high that its more stable and optimized in the future. Even LineageOS 21 is supported now, when next /e/OS version (U?) is available I will try to port.
Hopefully this device makes it officially supported by eFoundation.

Nice, looking forward to it. That would be based on this build here?
https://xdaforums.com/t/rom-13-14-clover-lineageos-20-21-for-xiaomi-mi-pad-4-unofficial.4514507/
In that case just FYI version 21 has a bug when no Gapps are installed where it canā€™t proceed past the initial setup process. But maybe the /e/OS userspace wouldnā€™t have that issue.

Another thing I wanted to mention that I appreciate is that you put your builds on Sourceforge, which is much more fast and reliable than the Androidfilehost. com links that other ROMs use.

That would be fantastic!

It still seems to be a very relevant device in the tablet market space. Plenty fast and good battery size, and you could get them unlocked directly from Xiaomi, which is the most important thing for OSS fans like me. I havenā€™t checked recently if theyā€™re still available new and unlocked and at what price.

Hey @ronnz98,
will there be a /e/OS-T V1.20 from you with the new BlissLauncher optimized for tablets?

When 1.20 will be available Iā€™ll do a new build for clover

I have tried the /e/OS update V1.20 in two ways:

  1. via host machine PC via adb sideload
  2. on clover tablet via local update

:smirk: Both times the existing e-Recovery 1.18-T was not updated to the current version 1.20-T.

:unamused: The announced new BlissLauncher version is unfortunately not integrated.

:smiling_face_with_three_hearts: My quick test shows me a perfectly working /e/OS 1-20-T. Many thanks for building @ronnz98

Manual update e-1.21-t-20240420-UNOFFICIAL-clover.zip by @roonz98 via e-Recovery from microSD card

Install completed with status 0.

but ā€¦
ā€¦ system only boots into e-Recovery V1.20 with the error message:

Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt. ...
Try again
Factory data reset

After the factory reset and format data the system boots and can be set up.

Negative: The system shuts down by itself after one minute, after I have booted into fastboot mode!

Check whether e-recovery V1.20 has been updated to V1.21, result: No - no update; e-Recovery V1.20 is still installed.

Too bad, so I installed e-recovery V1.21 manually and reinstalled the system.

After the completely new installation ā€œclean installā€ of e-1.21-t-20240420-UNOFFICIAL-clover.zip by @ronnz98 via e-Recovery V1.21 - the fastboot mode bug is still present, which means: When I boot into fastboot mode, the system shuts down completely. Before the screen remains black, the loading status is briefly displayed graphically.

Classy :bangbang: There is a new option at the bottom of the settings: mi Device Settings - Advanced Settings

There is a new option at the bottom of the settings:

mi Device Settings - Advanced Settings

.

What surprises me:
The Device Settings option - USB Fastcharge via USB 3.0 port ~ 900 mA.

According to the data sheet, the clover has a USB Type-C 2.0 port and a power supply with 5V~2A (I have the original Xiaomi NO-EU power supply). USB 2.0 only delivers 500mA according to the standard.

But maybe the USB-C port can do more than officially released due to the Qualcomm SDM660 Snapdragon 660 chipset. It would be a nice additional goodie.

Nevertheless: The fastboot problem (automatic shutdown) is not insignificant ā€¦:exclamation:

Thanks a lot to @ronnz98 for the continued updates and to @Xxpsilon for the detailed testing reports.

Iā€™m currently running e-1.20-t-20240223-UNOFFICIAL-clover with the TWRP recovery. Iā€™d like to update to e-1.21-t-20240420 but I donā€™t want to do a fresh install. Should I expect the same encryption issue that @Xxpsilon ran into, or is there any workaround?

Itā€™s worth noting that I originally did a full wipe and fresh install with e-1.18-t-20231214-UNOFFICIAL-clover.zip and then the update to e-1.20-t-20240223-UNOFFICIAL-clover and I didnā€™t have any problems with the encryptionā€¦ Maybe I wonā€™t have any problems because I donā€™t use a screen lock password?

Iā€™m wondering if the new kernel that @ronnz98 mentioned would help in the case of the major issue with standby battery drain that is present with all current ROMs for the Mi Pad 4 WiFI-only model that I have?

Thanks again.

Hi ronnz98 and others, thanks for new update. Already running this new rom about few days and no issue so far, magnetic setting are working just fine.

Yes, latest build used Kernel 4.19
