Week 22, 2022: Development and Testing Updates

Settings - About phone - Android version (tap on it) - /e/ version
… has all the info about your current build.
From Android 10 on the info there can be long-tapped and copied to clipboard (to paste it into a post in this forum, for instance).

Official builds of dev versions depending on which ROM of Android version ABCD was flashed and later received over the air version 0.x of /e/ of …

I fear this is a multi-dimensional matrix… how can we navigate this keeping sanity, as regular users ?

Uh, which says “official build” ? here for instance: “0.23-p-20220412177701-dev-FP3”… this looks like “dev” but is this supposed to mean official or not ?

Sorry about nitpicking… but at the time of 1.0 announcement, I hope this is worryless for new customers purchasing their preinstalled phones… but for the rest of the early adopters, it clearly is a mess :-/

Dev builds are official. Same as stable builds, it says so here … https://doc.e.foundation/build-status.
Dev builds get out a little earlier and might receive new stuff earlier than the stable builds, so that stable build users can profit from some testing done by dev build users.

You’re running /e/OS version 0.23, based on “p” ("P"ie = Android 9), built on April 12 2022, dev build, on an FP3 device (= Fairphone 3 or 3+, makes no difference for /e/OS).

I got it right, and I’m on a safer side, then (or not given lack of OTA on P/9 etc.)… and so, what would be displayed in case of a non-official build, then ?

test (“only accessible to testing team members”)
unofficial (“unofficial” )
custom (“Builds are not supported by /e/”)

Hello,
I use a S7 SM-G930F running 0.20-o-2021121051039-dev-herolte (oreo). I understand that “s7 / s7+ upgrade will be released on v1.0 build”. Does it mean I will see one day that there is an OTA update available (Settings/system update) ?

Yes you should see a notification for update in the Updater application. For the s7 / s7+ it would be an OS upgrade to Q. The build was to be released this week but has been pushed forward to early next week.

Update:
@claudiousse this is a response to your query as well. Yes you will upgrade to a v1.0 build. It will come in OTA and upgrade the Operating system to Q. It is not available for download as it has not been released as yet.

Yes but S7 is the exception to the rule “no update for devices on Oreo or Nougat”.

But the update (OTA or manual install) is not available yet, it will be in a few days as @Manoj said.

Thank you for your answer and for the work done by the team.
Very good news.
Claudiousse.

I did have the same prob first day.
Now it’s gone.

Hello guys,

Since /e/OS 1.0 I have an issue with draining battery. I’m using a FP4. Over night it’s in flight mode. With 0.23 I’ve had a battery usage over maybe 4%. With 1.0 it’s minimum 10%

Is there any crash report or something else what I can send to the team to identify this issue?

Best regards
Frank

Is it planned in near future to integrate the ability to rearrange app icons inside of a folder?
