Your SM_T725 is not yet supported by /e/ OS

I am looking for a tablet that is easy to work with.

I must have overlooked this VERY important detail.
Earlier I adopted /e/ OS with my Fairphone 4 and it was instant bliss. As in smooth sailing using the easy installer.

What information have I missed while selecting a tablet? Should it be more obvious for users (not technical people just plain simple users like me) if a device is supported or not?

I respect the open source nature and that everything is best effort. I am seriously considering sponsoring this project.

But it is minor details like these that make me very sad.

so how to proceed? what tablet do I buy? How do I navigate the official documentation to avoid misunderstandings like this again?

There is no easy installer for tablets yet… I have now several tablets running with eOS.
The Samsung S5e is the currently still the best one

Install instructions are here:
https://doc.e.foundation/devices/gts4lv/install
https://doc.e.foundation/devices/gts4lvwifi/install

It is not to hard to install it manually (at least my opinion)

I found the Levono Yoga Tab 3 Plus was the easiest to install

Well, I am getting a bit nervous now.

When following this
https://doc.e.foundation/devices/gts4lvwifi/install
I get stuck on step 8

  • Run Odin3 v3.13.1 found in the newly extracted “Odin_3.13.1” folder.

How do I do that on a linux system? the .exe is not doing anything.
Is this guide windows only?

In general It is easier using linux

I must admit that it is nearly impossible for me to get through all the steps scattered around.

For example, I have no OEM unlock in my developer options. How to proceed?

I just went ahead anyway but then I got stuck on this step

heimdall print-pit
Heimdall v1.4.2

I got one step further when the tablet was booted using this volume up and down thingy.

Releasing device interface…

So after updating the stock os I was able to enable OEM unlocking.

But still I get no further when using this heimdal print-pit thingy

Releasing device interface…

Can someone please help me wade through this?

Do you have USB debugging enabled?
For steps starting on step 8 I would suggest Windows in a Virtual Machine (Virtualbox etc.) … I’m do not know a way to flash eOS on this tablet without Windows (please correct me if I’m wrong!).
Maybe it works with WINE/Crossover Linux but I did not test yet…
I remember it took some hours to get over the hurdles to install, however it is only a question of time until you succeed

… and you are still seeming to be at the required stage of unlocking the bootloader.

Is the Samsung still almost “brand new” ?

If yes, I would just use it online for a bit so that it can check in with “Samsung Remote Monitoring”.

Thank you guys for trying to pitch in.

USB debugging is indeed enabled.

I am going to try and redirect USB to a windows VM. But I have to update the stock OS again because I messed up and it reverted back to it’s original state.

The tablet is brand new indeed. it looks never used before.

ugg  now I have to wait for the tablet to charge ;(
Anyway I’ll keep you guys updated of the progress

nooooooo
Redirecting the android device to the VM get’s me no where :frowning:

windows 2019 server notification states an unrecognized USB device has been detected.
Yet I have the latest samsung drives installed.

Now this is most likely due to the virtualization host. which is a rather recent version of proxmox.

I can try once again with virtual machine manager, on which I have a windows server 2022 VM.

But honestly I am starting to wonder if my time and money is best spend elsewhere.
Is there a tablet out there that is easy to adopt e os?

Try Oracle Virtualbox with Win10 or Win11

as said, the Levono Yoga Tab 3 Plus is much easiest to install and supports eOS R dev still.

latest Samsung firmware :
OS Version Android 11
Build Date Wed, 11 Jan 2023 10:22:09
PDA T725XXS3DWA1
Security Patch Level 2022-11-01

Security bulletin of the Samsung firmware must be older than the one included in the /e/OS build

This /e/OS v1.8 includes the Android security patches available until January. More information in the link below.
Android security patch January available until January

when

This /e/OS v1.7 includes the Android security patches available until October. More information in the link below.
Android security patch October available until November

and just to add that current v1.8 versions have a problem on the S5e… so better wait for v1.9 or try v1.7

hahahah would one like to hear something ridiculous yet really funny?

I just plugged in the tab S5e into another tablet (HP elite) running windows 10. And the S5e got recognized immediately.

Who would have thought I would be needing a tablet to liberate another tablet

I will try version 1.7 then as suggested above and I’ll let you guys know how it goes.

I think e-1.7 won’t install if you have latest samsung
as explicited in post 19
