the greyed out text doesn’t really help - but you shouldn’t be.
It’s off for a good reason and was defective in prior builds. Actually it was my PR that fully disabled it in /e/s Cromite fork - fix direct and any reverse dependencies of default preferences (!106) · Merge requests · e / os / Browser · GitLab - Cromite itself has it disabled as well

Not self explanatory why this is better to the end user who wants to do safe browsing though
Brave proxies to Google for that feature and does some gymnastics, so I’d install that if keen on checking every url against a live service.
Just uBlock on Firefox will go a long way too
