A bounty for your help!

Hello fellow /e/OS enthusiasts!

I’ve been using Swype since Windows Mobile 6.0, and it has served me well for over a decade. I bought the paid version many moons ago, and I’ve got an APK that I’ve moved from phone to phone via Titanium and SwiftBackup, and it’s been great, up until the /e/OS build based on Android 15. I’ve spent about a year trying to use a different keyboard, and while Heliboard is probably the least-bad, I am too used to Swype…and why does every keyboard think that ‘prefect’ is used more than ‘perfect’, anyway? …but I digress…

Point is, Swype is ancient and unsupported, because it ended up as a part of a series of acquisitions that meant that a few strands of its DNA merged with Swiftkey, which in turn got owned by Microsoft…ick on every count, hence the game of backup/restore.

I’ve tried the XDA threads on the topic, and haven’t been successful with any of them, each time getting an error, even when I ‘adb install’ it and ignore the SDK version. You can see the discussion on the matter here:
https://xdaforums.com/t/any-way-to-run-swype-dragon-keyboard-on-android-14-on-pixel-6-pro.4640113/

It seems that a piece of the issue is that it’s a 32-bit app, support for which seems to be gone, or nearly gone, through official means. I found this chestnut that may help:
https://xdaforums.com/t/magisk-magisk-zygote64_32-enabling-32-bit-support-for-apps.4521029/ , but the procedures seem a bit convoluted for my current understanding.

So, I’m reaching out to see if there’s anyone who is up for providing a step-by-step guide to getting this abandonware working on /e/OS 15. If you DM me that you’re starting, I’ll donate $25 to the /e/ Foundation in your name, and I’ll send $25 via Paypal or Venmo upon receipt of a working set of procedures (unless you’d prefer the balance to also be donated to /e/).

In the event I get multiple responses, it will be a first-come-first-served system; each getting seven days of exclusivity before I respond to the next responder. The working set of procedures will be posted here for all to see, hopefully enabling future users of 32-bit abandonware to have a starting point.

Thank you in advance for taking a look and helping my old, cranky self =).

If all else fails … put a gloss on the issue by knowing that adapting to new things keeps the brain fresh and flexible  .

Well, yes, which is why I’ve been doing my best with Heliboard…but i’m not sure that ‘different idiosyncrasies of software whose job is to enable text input on a screen’ is an optimal means of ensuring my brain remains adept - I do plenty of that with docker-compose =).
