I wanted to flash a custom Rom on my OnePlus Nord, which I haven’t used for a while. I had unlocked the bootloader a long time ago, but had the original OS Oxygen on it until now. Before starting, I checked for updates to be on the safe side and installed them. then I flashed TWRP via fastboot … and that was the mistake - correct would be to boot twrp first!
Since then I can only get into the bootloader.
I tried the following - unfortunately without success:
flash the e-recovery again
flashing a boot.img (as can be read in various forums) - I’m also not sure that the boot.img I used is the same build as the OxygenOS.
Problem: the Nord does not go into EDL mode. After pressing the button combination and connecting to the USB, the Nord always restarts after seconds in the bootloader.
This link is from the Community server mentioned https://onepluscommunityserver.com/list/Unbrick_Tools/. It will vary – several variants for nord – but there are methods given for achieving EDL on a Fastboot capable device.
Without using EDL:
As OnePlus doesn’t always provide download links for all of their OxygenOS ROMs & OTA update zips, we’ve created an index to put the links in one post so that they’re easy to find:
@aibd thanks for your Links. They have taken me a step further. But I still have the problem that I can’t get into EDL mode.
I tried the TWRP method from [Guide] How to use MSM tool.
Feedback from DOS-Promt:
Sending ‘boot.img’ (31916 KB) OKAY [ 0.679s]
Booting OKAY [ 0.084s]
Finished. Total time: 0.793s
On the device there is only the OnePlus logo with the text “fastboot mode”
And then happen nothing. So I have to reboot into bootloader with fastboot command.
I have tried 3 different TWRP images.
If you have fastboot your device is not really bricked. So if you want to get back to a good base you should be able to flash an Oxygen “fastboot ROM”. As explained in the above links “fastboot ROMs” are not archived by OnePlus officially, but can usually be found from the links I gave.
When we take the wrong turns this is the expected behaviour if system fails the device falls back to recovery if recovery fails the device falls back to fastboot … but one important detail to check though … you say
I have to reboot into bootloader
At this point what is the response to
fastboot devices
Notice in this thread Oneplus Nord manual installation problems we spent a long time to establish if we were actually talking about fastbootd – fastboot D. The thread does have a successful resolution though
I have finally managed to bring my Nord - avicii AC2003(EU) back to life.
It showed exactly the same behavior as described in the article “Oneplus Nord manual installation problems”. I therefore tried the MSM tool again according to the instruction “[Guide] How to use MSM tool”. I made two small mistakes during my first attempts with the MSM tool (I had different instructions): I didn´t start the tool as Admin and there was no connection to the COM-Port (keyword Enum-Button).
Thanks again for the great support and your patience.
