All calls come up as Unknown on Three Network UK

Hi All,

Fairphone 3+
Android 13
E/os version 2.9-t-20250321478215-offical-FP3
Dated 21 March 2025
No updates found running latest version.

About 3 months ago all calls started to show up as “Unknown”
If the same person sends a text then SMS recognises it and states that its from “Jim” for arguments sake.

I contacted 3 support and they said it could be a faulty SIM…

Things done to try and resolve this before getting a replacement SIM.
1, Have put the SIM in another handset - called my number and that phone shows my name.
2, Checked through various settings on the phone - Cant find anything that looks obvious.
3, Factory reset the handset - same result calls “Unknown”
3a, Interestingly for some reason I received a couple of international scam calls one from Vienna the other from Massachusetts USA … both of those numbers are shown ?

4, Had a new SIM from Three and tried test 1 again call unknown

Have tried turning off VoLT, phone rings but doesnt show anything not even Unknown and therefore cant answer call.
WiFi Calling On or Off makes no difference.

It is driving me mad as I use the phone for business and its nice to see whos calling !

All ideas gratefully received.
Cheers
Pete

Hi,

I’m in Ireland, FP3+ and got the same issue a couple of years (roughly) ago.
I figured out it happens when VoLTE is activated on my side… Disabled it and the issue disappeared. I can reproduce the issue by enabling it again.

Sorry that does not work for you. I’m curious to follow what you find out.
Cheers
Anthonin

My dad has just bought FP6 with pre-installed /e/OS and also has the issue on unknown callers.
This is very basic feature and the issue seems to come up regularly since 2021.

Is there anything we could do to make make sure the fix is implemented consistently across devices and does not return? @Manoj

HI Anthonin,

Here in the UK most networks have disabled / turned off 3G.
So turning off VoLTE means there is no way for the phone to get any calls !
As this appears to be an “Issue” it would be great if someone at e/os and Fairphone actually resolved it ??
If I put the SIM in another handset then inbound calls display correctly, therefore it is 100% an e/os Fairphone issue rather than the 3 Network.
What is the point of e/os if BASIC things don’t work or break “every so often” ?
Should I ditch e/os and try Graphine / Pixel ?
Can someone from e/os or Fairphone get on this and FIX IT ??
Cheers
Pete
