I recently installed /e/os on my FF4 and got the Android 14 update as well.
Following this official guide, I made it so far.
Everything that basically needs to work to my needs, works… Meaning Android auto connects, I can use navigation and do calls while driving without having to fiddle around with the phone itself. Nice …
It’s just that some other apps that used to work with AA before the switch to /e/os won’t work there now, and that would also be nice to have.
Now to the troubleshoot section:
…
Launch the Android Auto app on your /e/OS device.
that won’t work for me. To start with, it’s neither visible as an app through the launcher, nor opens through the App Lounge when searching for it there.
Checked “all apps” on the phone as well, it’s not deactivated (and cannot be). I can uninstall AA there (did that, reinstalled via App Lounge; same as before ).
To the point: If Android Auto is actually not “reachable” following the official /e/os guide, is there a simple way to turn on Unknown sources instead for AA, as the Troubleshoot section suggests it?
P.S.: I’m not interested in rooting the phone, nor want to install any “random” apk’s to try to get AA to work. I don’t consider rooting simple or safe, nor “trying out” random apks.
If “third party apps” currently are not gonna work, so be it. AA does what it needs to do: connecting to the car, enable calls & navigation (… Google maps works ) in the car.
To answer my own question: the Android Auto settings are only reachable for me via the connected Android Auto headunit in the car. There, in the settings i find an Option like “More settings on the Smartphone” (roughly translated) at the bottom of the options. Afterwards, the troubleshooting basically applies. Had to restart my phone once in order to see e.g. spotify in the headunit.
if you want to add anything to the docs, Manoj created a tag for this - documentation-inputs , you can add this to your top post, mark any post as solution and there’s a chance it gets added
and just to clarify to get this into the docs… the AA app device-side refuses to go into dev mode if you tap version 10 times or just that afterwards (still device-side), the menu 3 dot upper right → Developer settings → Unknown Sources isn’t shown?
To be clear: i can only reach the Android Auto Settings by opening the Settings from the Head Unit. so, the advice there could be rewritten as follows:
Launch the Android Auto app on your /e/OS device.
… OR connect your /e/OS device to the car. You can open the Android Auto settings from the head unit display in the car via the setting entry “More settings on the Smartphone” (roughly translated). The Android Auto settings then get opened on your phone.
Scroll to the bottom and tap Version 10 times.
Navigate to Developer settings by tapping the three-dot button at the top-right corner and taping Developer settings.
