Android update slow and stops very often

**Hi,

On my Fairphone 6 I was installing the latest update, however every 20-150 MB it stopped again, and I had to manually resume it.

Tried multiple things but nothing seemed to do the trick:**

  • checked Prioritise update process (was already on)
  • Used caffeine and stay on the update screen
  • closed as many apps as possible, and stayed on the update screen.

After 5 hours I managed to download and install the update, but hope that next update it will get a bit more smooth.

I saw some old topics with people having the same problem, however did not find a solution that worked.

Nothing to worry methinks :slight_smile:

Just resume the download or wait some days till the crowd besieging the servers has worn off.

I take it as a sign that eos is gaining traction which might hopefully be a good thing and not overwhelm the team and infrastructure.

Yes their server seems to have a serious problem, again, it is not the first time - after 90 minutes of very slow download - and we have a fast connection here in the city of Zurich, the dwonload is still not accomplished. And this is not the first time this happens, I have been using my FP4 with e/OS/ for nearly four years now, and before that e/OS with FP2. And it has been every now and then all the same.

And at the same time, they are begging for donations…. No! First improve your services!

I seriously start of evaluating another OS, iodé or ubuntu touch.

Hello, any other way to download it ? Torrent ? some Drive ? private server ?…
By the way i did the download in 3 hours with many interruptions, check MD5 success.
Let’s go for update !

edit : unable to update withthat link , i was forced to download update from smartphone in settings / update system. Not the same files ( IMG-e3.3… and e-3.3… ).

I confirm this issue. It seems that there is only one server/connection without a mirroring mechanism.

Very slow download. Currently, there are many connection failures and I have to reconnect manually very often. Let’s hope that the checksum will be OK at the end of this process…

655 MB out of 2.0 GB after more than 1 hour of download attempts :-).

On the other hand, it shows a lot of interest in /e/OS, which is good!

However, the guys will still have to work on the infrastructure. In any case, I wish the people at Murena and /e/OS (and everyone else here) all the best for the new year.

A very satisfied /e/OS user on Fairphone 6 from the Czech Republic.

Same here FP4 wanting to get 3.3.

Second day of hitting repeatedly resume in the update program. Half way now. By next year I should have the update.

This was also an issue about a year ago. In the meantime it went relatively fast. If it’s really the case that so many more user flood the server, maybe the servers should be upgraded/expanded.

Maybe someone could share a second repository , for manual updates ?

I think implementing the ota update provision with a torrent would be a great idea to lower the stress on Murenas servers.

pause and need to resume are because the screen turns off,
the screen need to stay on during the update download,
set up it in settings screen proprieties…

Nope. In my case, it stopped even if the screen was not off.

Same here, the screen is not off but the downloading keeps failing…
It’s not the update for me, it’s the image as i decided it was the good moment to change to /e/OS…
Now i just have to wait and try again repeatedly the download to get my phone back :sweat_smile:

Does anyone have an old image to share? :upside_down_face:

it’s a Fairphone 4, i tried to install with install helper but was not successful it gets stuck at the final step. So now I try to install it with sdk platform tool.

Same with me now, FP4, V3.3 to V3.4. It needed half a day. A real nuisance.

This time the update is even not available anymore, maybe also because of server issues? Yesterday I got the notification, today I wanted to update but there is no option.

Hello Everyone,
You can update manually

Go to download page ( here for FP6 )

Copy URL of img you want , and paste without “IMG-”

( example : h t t p s : / / images.ecloud.global/official/FP6/IMG-e-3.4-a15-20260114569178-official-FP6.zip
should be h t t p s : / / images.ecloud.global/official/FP6/e-3.4-a15-20260114569178-official-FP6.zip

and voilà… when your browser interrupt download, continue again and again.
When the download is complete you can update manually.
That update is long to install, check your battery before (must be >50%) and be patient. ( 10min)
