App Compatibility Services keeps stopping (FP5)

Hi, I’ve had a Fairphone 5 with Murena/e/OS for about a year now. I recently did about 6 months worth of system updates in a couple days as I’d been putting them off for ages. (annoyingly I had to do them sequentially rather than all at once).

Anyway, since beginning, I’ve had constant popups of the error message “App Compatibility Services keeps stopping” - it’s about every 5-10 minutes no matter what app I currently have open.

I understand App Compatibility Services has replaced MicroG, I can’t disable/uninstall/update it. So I’m hoping someone here can help. It’s making the already not smooth process of using a degoogled phone much less usable.

I’ve now updated my system software to the most recent version (3.7.3-a15-20260506618655-official-FP5)
and App Compatibility Services is version 0.3.13.250932-27

Anyone else had this issue? anyone solved it?

Hi @FFS welcome to the /e/ users forum.

Many. One should Clear cache of many system apps particularly after multiple updates.

Settings > Apps > All apps > top right 3 dot menu > Show system > problem_app > Storage and cache > Clear cache.

Step2. You will lose your own microG settings but if necessary with App Compatibility Services you may have to Clear storage. (Just do Clear cache and restart first. The persistence you report may indicate that Clear storage is necessary.)

Thanks for your help, I tried this on Friday and the problem hasn’t re-occurred over the weekend.

I had to clear the storage as you said, as just clearing cache didn’t work.
