I’m new to /e/ and have been very impressed with it so far. Running it on a Galaxy S10 Exynos (model SM-G973F).
One odd thing I have noticed is that I downloaded an Uber AWP application to try it, then deleted it. The app icon has gone, it is no longer visible under Settings > Apps, however when I look in the App Lounge it gives me the option to Open rather than Install. Launching it takes me to the browser page for Uber login in my default browser (which is what the App did when launched via the icon when it was installed).
Using ADB, it doesn’t show in the list of packages when I run the “adb shell pm list packages” command and running the “adb uninstall auth.uber.com” gives response “Failure [DELETE_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR]” which I believe is the error it gives when it can’t find the package provided.
I’m not very familiar with AWP applications. Any idea why this might be occurring?
Apologies yes, that was a typo (twice ) . It is the Uber PWA option available in the App Lounge. The one called “Uber” when you search App Lounge with PWA filter selected.
So when it’s not visible anymore in the Settings is rather a problem of App Lounge alone.
If deleting the cache of App Lounge doesn’t bring anything new you could also try to delete the entire app memory. But I can’t predict how this impacts the other App Lounge installed apps and their updates.
Another thing is: you could install the app again and delete it immediately, for the case that the last uninstallation was not entirely successful.
As App Lounge has been behaving oddly lately it is probably worth clearing Storage, that is, Data in the App Lounge app. Be aware that this will delete Settings in App Lounge. It should not affect any correctly installed apps which should not have left a trace in App Lounge as far as I understand.
(Perhaps also read up on the way PWA work as they are a bit different, mostly in a good way for privacy.)
Thanks for the advice. I cleared both the storage and cache for the App Lounge but no change. I cant reinstall it from the App Lounge either because it thinks its already installed so i can only open it. See screenshot for the Uber PWA app.
You might also check if some “ghost” of the Uber PWA is installed on the default Browser. Perhaps also check on any other browser you may have installed.
If you open https://auth.uber.com in the default Browser, then top right 3 dot menu, scroll well down > Add to Home screen > Name and create shortcut > Add …
Now you will find the PWA reinstalled. This would give you a different opportunity to uninstall it.
Longer answer
In researching this, I have (partially ?? ) reproduced your issue and found it difficult to recover from. I found more than one variant of the app … maybe significant … in this shot a “second” Uber shortcut appears – not deliberately installed.
Thank you for putting so much time into this small issue on my behalf. I’ve followed along what you’ve done in /e/'s default Browser and I can add the shortcut to the home screen without issue. When you did this did the PWA Uber app icon add to the home screen automatically at the same time? If yes, I wasn’t able to recreate this.
I’ve noticed that following the https://auth.uber.com link actually updates in the browser to https://auth.uber.com/v2/. Not sure if that difference in the URL is what’s preventing me recreating your steps.
I’m learning a lot more about PWA apps thanks to this (and you) though
No, I don’t think so. The second icon seemed to appear while I was taking screenshots, maybe going back and forth a bit. At the time I was unsure if the app was behaving correctly … later I was quite pleased to see it finally gone.
Apologies for the late reply, I’ve been extremely busy. I’ve tried multiple times to replicate what you did, using the default Browser app to create a shortcut on the homescreen but I can’t get the PWA application icon to reappear on the homescreen. I’ve tried multiple combinations of clearing the Browser cache and app data, resetting the phone and adding and deleting the shortcut but not matter what I do I can’t get the actual PWA icon to appear.
Wherever the ‘ghost’ of this app is residing, I can’t seem to find it. It’s not causing me any problems other than frustrating me that I can’t figure it out so I guess I’ll have to let it go.
