Exactly what we don’t want to see
Does this happen for all apps for which you search?
Please can you try
Settings > Apps and notifications > See all … apps > App Lounge > Storage & cache > Clear storage
This will result in you having to accept T&C again and ask for a new anonymous session.
Yeah I already tried that, as well as restarting, using other network.
We also have two phones (same device) and it happens on both of them.
Update: It just worked once but then failed again on another app, weird. Ahh nevermind, that was an Fdroid App.
Fdroid Apps work, only Gplay Apps are broken rn.
I’ll try again later with a few dozen apps and will post the result.
I can reproduce the problem on my OnePlus 6 with /e/OS e-2.8-a14-20250221470208-community-enchilada. Clearing the App Lounge storage has not helped.
I have not found anything related in the /e/OS GitLab. If this problem continues, a bug report should maybe be opened, and the problem mentioned in the Feedback for v2.8 thread.
I mainly use Aurora Store with an anonymous account for my Play Store apps, so this may be a suitable workaround for now, @Weidenwiesel ?
EDIT: I use an alternative webview, so I will check whether the problem is still there if I switch to the original /e/OS webview.
EDIT 2: After switching to the original webview, installing apps did not work. When I cleared the App Lounge storage again, the problem was fixed. Switching to the alternative webview then seems to have recreated the problem. However, this could also be caused by problems with the anonymous account of the App Lounge, so I cannot really name the webview as culprit yet.
@Weidenwiesel : Do you use an alternative webview?
Yeah, I know of Aurora Store. But installing Apps isn’t that important for me, I have everything, I only wanted to install a game I wanted to play but found an alternative on Fdroid by now.
I use the default webview.
The problem is also now only happening at random, i.e. I can install apps with enough tries, cache cleans and restarts. It would be annoying but again, I really don’t need new apps…
Maybe google changed something or is in A/B testing?
I know as an maintainer of many alternative frontends such as Invidious, when stuff like that happens, its often caused by A/B testing from the original provider (google).
Indeed, I also could install an app, even with an alternative webview enabled, but not always. So I guess there may some A/B testing going on.
We will see whether others will report similar problems.
