"App Lounge" Exodus report isn't working

Hey everyone, I’m a complete newbie with /e/ and I’m thrilled so far.
However, I have a problem and I couldn’t find an answer here.

In “App Lounge” you are offered to create an “Exodus report” on the subject of data protection for the apps. You can also view trackers. But unfortunately it doesn’t work. When I click on it, a browser opens and tries to access “reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/”. But this fails with the error message “err_connection_refused”.
In another browser (Firefox) it does not work either.
However, if I switch off Wifi and use the mobile data connection, then it works.
I can also open the page on a notebook that is connected to the same Wifi.

What could be the problem here? Thank you very much.

not “create” but just see the record of known trackers on the app - it works for me™.

Exodus seems to block your home isp, either as you’d connect through TOR (the Advanced Privacy hide-my-ip feature) or through a vpn?

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem, exodus-privacy seems to be blocked from the ISP.
With TOR Browser or through a VPN, I have access to exodus-privacy.eu.org
but from the wifi…

$ dig exodus-privacy.eu.org +short
217.70.189.62
$ nc -vz 217.70.189.62 443
nc: connect to 217.70.189.62 port 443 (tcp) failed: Connection refused
$ nmap -Pn 217.70.189.62
Starting Nmap 7.94SVN ( https://nmap.org ) at 2025-02-08 14:56 CET
Nmap scan report for front1.exodus-privacy.eu.org (217.70.189.62)
Host is up (0.010s latency).
Not shown: 998 filtered tcp ports (no-response)
PORT    STATE  SERVICE
80/tcp  closed http
443/tcp closed https

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 4.47 seconds

But why such a block ?

Seems AppLounge has stopped to proxy the requests and EP isn’t happy with the request volume?

Theory II (instead of rate limiting): overall request volume is exhausting their uwsgi workers - I scrolled 20-30 pages of apps until every response was N/A - but I wasn’t blocked per se, just no answer. Switching over many /e/OS users with the !522 MR must have heightened their request volume? /e/ should hit them up and ask if they’re unhappy - API is down? · Issue #605 · Exodus-Privacy/exodus · GitHub

Hello,
I asked directly to Exodus.
My IP had been banned for exceeding their limit of more than 50 API requests per second three times in a short space of time.

great you asked and got a reply! is the IP ban then permanent after the triple-violation?

probably about time to file a bug on this as there is none yet

I’ve asked whether removal from the banned list is automatic after a certain time or manual, but I haven’t had an answer yet.

I have the same problem. But I haven’t used App Lounge that much. It happened to me after just a few uses, I installed /e/OS at the evening, installed Whatsapp and went to bed. The next day (yesterday) I installed a very few apps and then I couldn’t see any privacy rates.

I’ll try to contact them, fingers crossed.

This should be fixed in /e/OS 2.8 :

Still not working for me on
2.8-t-20250219470165-official-FP5

that changelog entry goes back to Cancel loading of ratings when view is recycled (!541) · Merge requests · e / os / App Lounge · GitLab -

Sometimes loading Exodus Privacy ratings did not work and ended up in http timeout. I suspect it happens because the recycler view is not cancelling properly the http request to load the rating.

I’m unsure this will lead to less requests emitted when scrolling down, just better housekeeping?

Still not working on CMF Phone 1

I have contacted Exodus and they told me this:

your IP address has been ban because /e/OS “App Lounge” is DDOSing our infrastructure with lot of requests from a lot of smartphones without our permission.

I guess that development team was aware of it, but just in case, I’ll try to contact them.

Yeah it’s down for me since yesterday. You can see App Lounge hammering on the site when you get those long lists.

I rely on those reports. At this point I have to actually install an app to get a read on it.
