No, I have the problem with all the apps quoted as “common” on the App Lounge. Like I said :
Which represent most of the apps that I wanted to download
I just used Google Wallet as an example because it was one of the apps I could get the version number for the Aurora Store. I just wanted to share more information on the bug I had.
Yupp, I did that, but no results.
In the end, I still have my problem :
The App Lounge does not load Apps considered as “common” by the App Lounge. This includes apps like Whatsapp, Tiktok, Microsoft suit, World of Tanks Blitz, Roblox, telegram,… (I do not endorse these apps, nor want to download all of them, they are examples to say it encompasses a broad range of apps.
Aurora App does not work either on the said apps and tells me that the app is unavailable on my device
I can fortunately download some of the apps via uptodown, which is a great think I guess, but very finicky and does not reassure me at all. Moreover, some apps just don’t work (like DebitX, which I need for my online payments)
My build is :
Which I presume may be the leading cause of all these bugs.
My question or new quest is:
How can I help the developers fix these issues?
Should I go somewhere else? (Maybe the forum is not the right place to share this problem)
When will I be able to just have an App Lounge that works?
Should I just do a new thread?
App lounge was hanged on all screen for me, since /e/ 3.0.1 upgrade (seems) on a pixel 5 phone.
removing app data did not fix anything (it was the case last time app lounge hangup, but not this time)
what unlocked my usage was to install aurora, (installed with the help of f-droid) make an update of every app that needed update, then app lounge started to works properly again. there were an update of google stuff … that might be what was missing.
after this update app lounge is displaying correctly app, and update.
same for me. I can’t install some apps (e.g. signal messenger, mysports, ADAC drive, Blitzer) with the app lounge. before I’ve received an error message that the app is not supported with my fairphone 5 /e/OS 3.0.1 A14, but now there is only a black screen when I open the page for Signal in App Lounge. No more error message. It just does nothing when I try to install from the search results list.
The same happens with those apps on Aurora Store, but at least I get an error message "app not available for this device"
So some apps I can install, others not. I doubt that the FP5 with A14 is too new or too old for those apps. Especially Signal Messenger and Blitzer app. They are installed millions of times and surely are supported with A14. I also deleted the App cache and log-out/log-in and rebooted the phone.
Installing Signal with a different phone (S10, old version of /e/OS 0.xx A11) with Aurora works just fine. So it must have to do with the version of /e/OS or Android
After the issue solved itself on my phone, I could enjoy a working App Lounge for about a week. The example apps mentioned above showed up, installed and upgraded without problem. Since yesterday however, I’m back at the black loading screen for “common” apps.
Let’s take this to the bug tracker to get the devs involved. While Open Source app are often to be preferred, I think it should be considered a major bug when not all apps can reliably be browsed, installed or updated.
I’ll create the issue on Gitlab later today and post the link here.
(as a personal example: I use the paying version of OSMAnd+ almost daily. The Free build, OSMAnd~, is missing some essential features. But now I have to be careful to not update the app, or it is downgraded to the open version, as my paid one is not available)
This is definitely the way to go. May I suggest that you include specific example apps. There is more than one “category” in this thread and devs might like to examine from pov
Common apps
Apps published by Google
Paid for apps
Google clearly have the power to try to exclude requests. In categories 2 + 3 setting up exclusion might be more easily done.
I do not think they can be put in those categories.
I’m still not seeing a pattern in which apps work and which don’t.
The confusing part is that, as said, all apps just loaded for me last week and now again don’t.
If, in the App Lounge settings, I only allow for “Common Apps” (not the greatest name btw), I get a list from which most apps fail to load, but some do.
Just a sample, trying the top row from the App Lounge home recommendations:
Not loading:
I hope selecting the backlog project to file the report was a good move. It is where most recent issues seem to reside. The project for the App Lounge didn’t allow me to create a new issue.
You might bear in mind in trying to pinpoint the cause … in my testing of App Lounge if I get the animated black screen when App Lounge loads and it lasts more than ~4 seconds … I already switch off and “Try again later”.
I believe the above indicates that App Lounge is likely busy with peers, other users.
This is perhaps interconnected with my second tactic … don’t ask again after one failure … " Try again later".
Pure speculation … if your IP is rejected once this could be remembered by the server for a little while … or could lead to a blacklisting (??).
Third interconnected thought the required “exchange of token” has to happen in a timely way (like really quite fast) so any delay on the line can have an adverse effect. I have had rare but repeatable occasions where mobile data works but home Wi-Fi fails at “peak times”.
I guess I also got used to Clear storage after any sub optimal ecperience.
I understand your reflex to no try and hammer the server. This approach does not seem to yield any results though, and fact remains that the app and servers (/e/OS or Google) are supposed to be able to handle the demand.
In that case simply switching to 4G as you indicate should already solve the problem, which it doesn’t. And if it would be a blacklisting of the App Lounge’s “Anonymous” account, then the app has a structural problem.
My Wi-Fi here is connected to a fast fiber connection and we have good 4G coverage. Network speed should not be an issue.
Does not seem to do anything for me.
I appreciate the thoughts, but they all fail to take into consideration that a subset of the available apps do load without any delay, while the majority is blocking. I still don’t see the connection.
As another sample, I went through the list of “Top Free Games” (still excluding the open source ones).
Only 2 could be loaded:
Word Search Explorer (PlaySimple Games)
Chick n Drop (OneMaDGame)
What makes these special?
All the others failed (Royal Kingdom, Music Piano 7, Vita Mahjong, Kingshot, Soccer Referee Simulator 3D, Roblox, Shape Escape, Block Blast!, etc…)
Besides being annoying (I already installed the apps I want to use anyway), this has become a breaking bug for me, as it coincides with OsmAnd+ disabling the parts of the paying version. It still shows I have paid and even have a running subscription on their online services, but it disables OpenGL rendering (for 3D navigation) and the integrated weather maps…
It is however not so that all paid apps are suddenly disabled. iReal Pro still runs fine and even the DLC for blues and salsa tracks is loading without problems.
For me (also FP5) it currently is not working. It’s an (authentication?) issue that comes and goes. When I started this thread 20 days ago, the App Lounge hadn’t been working for days. Then, 4 days later, it suddenly starts working without any issues. Another 10 days later, it stopped working again.
So, now it has been broken for me all week again. Not being able to install or update apps is quite a big bug. I’m very curious where exactly the issues lays or how we can help to debug it. No response so far on the Gitlab issue tracker.
