Since recently (possibly since the update to /e/OS 3) the App Lounge is hanging when trying to display “common” apps (so, from the Google Play Store). This means I can’t install or update any apps that I bought previously with my Google account. And I bought those because I’m really using them.
Selecting an app from the overview or from searching results in a black screen with waiting icon. Same for opening a link from play.google.com
Every few tries I’d get the error message “Google sign in failed! Due to a network error, App Lounge was not able to get Google sign-in data.”
It does not seem to matter whether I’m logged in with my personal or with the anonymous account.
Some apps however do load. Most don’t. I can’t see a pattern there yet.
Open Source apps are not affected.
I’ve tried the suggested solutions like force stopping the App Lounge, clearing cache and data, restarting the phone, waiting before trying again, … without result.
The status page shows the App Lounge to be up for 99.89%
Does that have anything to with it? Anyone else having this issue currently?
As a bonus question: I wanted to post this as an issue on GitLab, but my e-mail address is not accepted, maybe because of the unusual top-level domain of my home town (.gent ). Who would be maintaining that server and its e-mail blacklist?
I am sorry @thpar_eos I did not mean to be hostile; I guess the wording changed since I read it last, perhaps some did not understand the wording as I remember
Would it be useful if I moved this thread into a bug report on GitLab? If yes, could you assist me in creating a GitLab ID? It seems my mail server’s domain name is not accepted.

This morning (CET) the App Lounge simply started working again for me.
Both with the Anonymous as with my personal Google account the common apps correctly show again. I could install my purchased app without problems and I suddenly received the updates of all my non-open source apps.
Something upstream (with /e/OS of with Google) must have changed, as I didn’t make any changes anymore myself.
I Bought a New FP5 Yesterday and unfortunately it did not come with /e/ OS already installed.
I installed the last /e/ OS build (IMG-e-3.0.1-a14-20250607498722-official-FP5) following these instructions (Install /e/OS on a Fairphone FP5 - “FP5”). My FP5 is on Android 14 with the Android security update of 1st of May 2025 and Vendor security patch level of 5th May 2025.
I left the Bootloader unlocked in fear of “bricking” my phone.
The phone works and all! Which is cool, however I am facing the same issue as in this thread :
Some apps such as What’s app or Deezer work, but other like Spotify, Signal or Banking apps do not load in the App Lounge. I am stuck with a loading screen that never ends.
I figured that it might be some minor bug and installed Aurora Store. To my surprise the apps that could be downloaded in the App Lounge worked here too, but the Apps that did not load previously now displayed this message : “App not available for your device”
If the Android your FP5 came with was only at the May 1st security patch or earlier, you should be fine. If it had a more recent update, you’ll indeed be better leaving it unlocked.
That indeed looks like the issue I’ve been experiencing for about a week. Here it just solved itself one morning. Don’t know why…
Interesting that the same apps show as unavailable in the Aurora Store. It shifts the cause from the App Lounge to Google, or the way /e/OS is connecting to Google.
The Store is not working again… At least I downloaded all the apps that I need to survive, but I am faced with the same issue as before again.
It is also worth to note that certain apps do not load anymore. For instance DebitX (Téléchargement de l’appli debiX+) which is an app to manage credit cards (and required if I want to use them) does not load after I log in. However, other banking apps still work. Spotify, Whats app or Signal also all work.
I have changed absolutely nothing and I am quite confused. Should I install another version? Downgrade to Android 13? Is it a bug that will repair itself?
Thank you for redirecting me to the app-lounge thread. I went through it however, none of the bug reported were like mine. I believe that these bugs may be because of the new version of Android and the /e/ OS v.3 release. I have contacted a friend that does not experience these issues, however she is on /e/OS 2.9 and android 13 still.
I have discovered something new though:
When manually installing an App on Aurora, this message appears:
I hope this will help the developing team to resolve this issue!
Also, I was wondering if this was a common experience on /e/ OS, because at first I was so excited to degooglize my phone, and now I just feel that the OS is not ready yet to do the basic requirements on today’s life styles (like banking, downloading apps,…)
