Apps with SMS Authetification will not work

Hi,

I switched to the Fairphone 6 and /e/OS some time ago.

However, I’ve run into issues with a few apps—specifically those in the “must-have” category, like mobility or banking apps. These include:

  • Dott

  • Traderepublic

  • Curve Pay

  • Wero

Common issue:
All these apps require my phone number for login and then send me an SMS. The SMS part doesn’t work, and even after entering the code, I get an error message.

I also found something related to this issue:
github.com/microg/GmsCore [BOUNTY] Support Play Integrity over remote DroidGuard + Server/Guide [$35] Opened Apr 6, 2025 by kaduvert Play Integrity should be supported over the remote DroidGuard functionality…

However, the ticket is full of technical jargon. I’m not entirely sure if the problem is being resolved or if it’s still ongoing.

Can someone here assess this?

Another point:
In some posts, people mention re-locking the bootloader, which would supposedly wipe all data.

Question 1: Could this solve the authentication issues?
Question 2: Would all apps be deleted, and would I have to re-register everywhere?

Thanks!

I’d retry in v4.2, there’s been an microg overlay fix that should provide basic integrity again for a linked Google account. That could be enough for some of them to send the sms.

Q1: Relocking is nice, but for the “basic integrity” verdict it needs (afaik) the tethered Google Account too. You can try in v4.2 without
Q2: Relocking resets your userdata on the phone - yes, disruptive

(ultimately, it’s cat-and-mouse though. “basic integrity” is proprietary, not a neutral term - and constitutes market manipulation in favor of Googles rom signing keys)
