Voice-over-LTE calling technology is taking over the previous method of implementing calls, which used the 2G/3G networks. Those 2G/3G networks are being shut down in many (most?) countries, so VoLTE will be required to complete all phone calls once all 2G/3G is gone.
Samsungs are uniquely problematic in that they currently lose the ability to implement VoLTE once a custom ROM is installed.
No problem if you’ll still have 2G or 3G in your locale (for the foreseeable future), or if you don’t need to make or receive calls.
