Hello. New-to-/e/OS user, and new to forum, but not new to Discourse sites. Also, I’m not much of a smartphone fan, and I only interact with them when I have to, so I have issues. I’m old. Get off my lawn.
I’ve been trying to move/manage icons around on my home screen to replicate what I had set up on my previous phone but am not able to get them to stay put. I see some threads here discussing concerns re: standard launcher (Bliss, right?), but am not sure if this is the underlying issue, or that it’s just that I haven’t found the correct setting or preference or technique. I am trying for this, where the "?"s indicate where I am having an issue:
Hi - I’m new to Fairphone and e/os and also have same query.
I want to replicate experience of previous phones and place app icons where I want them on various home screens. However, every time I install an app and then try and move the icon to a specific part of the screen it refuses to remain there and automatically moves to next available slot at top of screen beside existing icons. Similarly if I delete an app all other app icons then reorganise to fill the new “gap”.
Answers in this (and previous threads) seem to indicate that this is default behaviour of Bliss Launcher and that “You can install the alternative launcher you want” but if this is the case then what are the recommended alternative launchers? where can I download them? and what do I do to make them override Bliss Launcher?
Probably Nova and Lawnchair are the most popular. Nova is free, but has a paid Prime version. They have a web site here; https://novalauncher.com but you get it from Google Play which you can access with Aurora or App Lounge. Lawnchair 14 is open source and has no trackers. Its the one I use and it works well for me. Best to get it here; https://lawnchair.app since it can be hard to find the latest version in app stores.
