How can ensure I’m installing the official Play Store app over F-Droid? I’m trying to debug why Tailscale is failing on latest firmware update, but can’t find a way to ensure I’m getting the ‘official’ app instead of F-Droid version.
I always prefer F-Droid and have had it installed and assumed that’s how App Lounge can access the F-Droid repos, but uninstalling F-Droid seems to make no difference to the App Lounge behaviour.
TL;DR: imo - uninstall tailscale, get the apk from the official page and install via adb install
f-droid tailscale is failing because …
panic: binary built with tailscale_go build tag but failed to read build info or find tailscale.toolchain.rev in build info
there’s a bit of history in F-Droid and broken tailscale builds, as there is automation to create releases, but no testing done prior to public release.
AFAIK App Lounge uses both the F-droid and Google repos by default (no need to install F-droid as you found out), preferring the F-droid version when available. I’ve installed Aurora Store for apps when I need the Playstore version (e.g. Nextcloud Talk, where the F-droid version doesn’t provide push notifications).
Thanks @tcecyk and @helicase
I should have d/l the apk but the Amazon App Store link was on the Tailscale d/l page so I followed that, it was a lot more trouble than the apk would have been. Thx
