I’ve recently bought the Fairphone 6 with /e/OS preinstalled. I’ve mostly gotten it to work, except for my language learning app: Babbel.
Every time I try to do a speaking lesson, it says “speech recognition currently not available” (German: “Spracherkennung aktuell nicht verfügbar”).
Does anyone know how to solve this?
Could this be due to missing google speech-to-text? I’ve logged in to my google account in the microG companion app. Is there something more I need to do to enable this? Is it even possible to enable it?
highly likely. While there are replacements in both foss and via premium subscription to murena, the App will not look for them and be flexible enough to use them.
To be sure one would look at logcat while running the function and check what it looks for.
It still doesn’t work, but I managed to get the error message to go away by installing the “speech recognition and synthesis” google app. Now the speech input just stops immediately after it is started.
I’ll have a look with logcat as soon as I find some time for it. Thanks for the suggestion, @tcecyk!
