Battery drain on FP6

Hi there,

I use e/OS 3.4-a15 on FP 6. While the battery initially lasted for two days (from 80% to 20%), for several weeks now I have noticed battery usage that causes the battery to drop from 80% to 20% in only about 24 hours, which means that battery usage has apparently doubled. I noticed an initial change in battery consumption with the December update, and another when I switched to a new mobile phone contract with 5G and e-SIM (previously SIM with only 4G). I have already disabled 5G and ‘Automatically select network’ in the network settings, as some users who have also noticed battery consumption have recommended this. I also use the ‘App Lounge’ very sparingly, launching it to check for updates and then closing the process and deleting the user data, as this also saves battery charge. This has helped to prevent even greater battery consumption, but I still wonder what is causing the battery consumption to double compared to November 2025.

I would really appreciate any tips on how I can get to the bottom of this.

Check with Settings > Battery > Battery usage > view by system. Now compare with View by apps. Do these figures look representative of your use?

Here is an image of my view by system for a random recent period. If any system components or apps seem to consume an unnaturally high proportion, I suggest clear the cache of this app.

Update and the SIM change could have left unhelpful residue in cache.

The app CacheCleaner can help automate the process com.github.bmx666.appcachecleaner but requires a bit of reading to start.

Thanks, I hadn’t tried that yet. On my device, “Mobile network” is listed first with 60% usage.

E: I have installed Cache cleaner, but I am not sure, which system apps I should choose for clearing cache. My first research did not deliver reliable results. Any suggestions?

Indicates some problem, like the phone is wasting a serious amount of power to connect. This may be an actual network problem rather than cache. A search may find forum posts covering similar.

To help learn the extent of cache problems … say your 60% is seen in “System view” now change to “Apps view” … which apps show at the top? Clear cache of those apps. (It is a judgement whether cache is involved or not.)

Using CacheCleaner really “Clear all” is fine.

(To learn how each cache behaves study of the system apps can be somewhat useful. My default CacheCleaner lists apps by size of cache. So Select top 6 apps and clear, Select next 6 apps and clear. Perhaps bear in mind that size is not the main thing. A browser will collect a large useful cache quite quickly.)

During further research yesterday, I came across a thread in the Graphene/OS-Community. Several people there had the same problem with different devices, but especially with Google Pixels. They also recommended disabling 5G/automatic network selection, which I have already done. A moderator suspected that it might be a problem with a specific app/OS combination and mentioned something about Signal’s WebSocket push draining the battery. But in my battery statistics, it seems that Vivaldi consumes the most battery power (which seems quite reliable, at least in comparison to other apps, as I use it most often compared to others). What also bothers me is that my battery statistics seem to be quite inaccurate. They are not reset when I have fully charged my device.

For me battery usage for mobile network on FP6 is 89% after a day usage.

In case you are in any doubt your usage does not point to a system app cache problem at all. So we leave that on one side.

The battery use by app is what it is, no comment.

Battery use by System:

Screen 21%
Voice calls 8% no comment.

Mobile network 60% … and then involving

CPU 9% does surly indicate a Mobile network problem in my opinion.

Yes, it definitely looks like that.

What I have done so far:

  • Cleared the cache of all system apps
  • Set 4G as the preferred network type
  • Deactivated the secondary (physical) SIM card
  • Deactivated ‘Mobile data always active’ in the developer options.
  • Deactivated ‘Select network automatically’
  • Disabled ‘Mobile data’ for Vivaldi
  • And today I installed version 3.5-a15 of e/OS

In addition to disabling ‘Mobile data always on’, it seems to be most helpful to use a Wi-Fi connection. When I get the chance, I will disable ‘Mobile data’ for all apps and try to find out if it is caused by an app.

If anyone else has any tips, please feel free to share them.

Thanks for the list of tips.

Disabling automatic network selection and setting back to 4G helped a lot, it more than doubled the battery time.
