Before install on Google Pixel 4a one question

Hi everybody.
I’m new here this is my 1st post.
I’m ready to jump to /e/OS on a Pixel 4a but just to be sure before installing:
There is a warning here saying :
Make sure that you can send and receive SMS and place and receive calls (also via WiFi and LTE, if available), otherwise it will not work on /e/OS as well. Additionally, some devices require that VoLTE/VoWiFi be utilized once on stock to provision IMS.
My phone has been reset, it’s on Android 13 with NO SIM card.
I was planning to use a eSIM (Bcengi travel eSIM) after installing /e/OS.
Can you please confirm that it won’t be possible later and I’ve to do it now.
Soory to ask confirmation even if the warning is clear enough but I’m really surprised by that.

Thank you

Hello @JumpZero, Welcome to the /e/ users forum.

if your device is not new, don’t care about this warning.

Thank you @piero
I go forward

Hi

Sorry I need help again

following this page everything went fine up to end of the chapter Temporarily Booting a custom recovery using

I sucessfully flashed the recovery image:

sudo ./fastboot flash boot /media/guy/C4EE-D690/TMP_GUY/recovery-e-3.6-a16-20260317595985-community-sunfish.img
Sending ‘boot_b’ (65536 KB) OKAY [ 1.670s]
Writing ‘boot_b’ OKAY [ 0.310s]
Finished. Total time: 2.359s

But after that was not able to boot in recovery mode. For a very long time (about 15 minutes or more) the device was booting with the big blue G and a animated progress bar under. I tried to stop it by pressing power button for 60s but nothing happen and now it is blocked displaying “Google” I also had a message saying the device is corrupted :frowning:
Here are some pictures

Thank you

There are contradictions in the instructions !

@manoj, Why Title say “Temporarily booting” when instructions are for flashing ?
When it was reported for years.

@JumpZero, boot the device in download mode, then try to boot into recovery-e

./fastboot boot /media/guy/C4EE-D690/TMP_GUY/recovery-e-3.6-a16-20260317595985-community-sunfish.img

Thank you
Sorry for late answer, but as a new forum user I was not allowed to post within the same hour.
And later I went to sleep.. :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

But I have successfully managed to boot to /e/OS  by reading help on the web (an some IA help)

So everything is ok so far
Thank you everybody for the support

What was the point ?

I messed things up a lot and probably messed things up on this phone. I can’t retrace everything that happened, but basically: I was stuck in a bootloop, always returning to the boot screen with the Google logo.

What got me out was finding the following combination: Press and hold the power and volume down buttons simultaneously for 15 seconds. As soon as the screen went black, release them, then press volume down again. This brought me back to the fastboot screen, and I restarted the process by flashing the recovery, eventually reaching the /e/OS recovery mode, etc.

So everything’s good now; I’m going to explore /e/OS at my leisure.

Thanks again for being so responsive

Just to give an update to my very first question:
I now have installed a eSIM (Travel eSIM - Data only) and it’s working as expected :ok_hand:
