I am currently looking for an audio streaming application similar to spotify, but open source. I came across Blackhole which seems good but the app seems too good to be free, is it safe even if it is open source?
it gets its music from some Indian streaming service, so if you’re not a fan of their hits or some super mainstream music, you’re not going to find the songs you’re looking for.
How bad is spotify? Im still kind of early in my open source, google free journey. Spotify is the one app for me that is really a tough pill to swallow to get rid of it.
I would recommend using Spotify Lite over Spotify if you’re worried about trackers. You’ll have to side-load Spotify Lite from the web because it’s not in the app store.
Maybe take a peek at Shelter. It puts apps in a work profile so they can only see what’s in the work profile. I use it for Amazon Music myself, and while it doesn’t stop the trackers, it minimizes what they see.
To actually disable trackers you could use Tracker Control. I don’t use it myself, but I’ve heard good things.
These would let you use the real Spotify app and limit both what it sees and what it sends.
But spotify is one of those applications that do not respect privacy, that’s why I’m looking for an alternative that is more respectful of our data…
