I just bought the murena Pixel Tablet with e/OS 2.7 preinstalled, and unfortunately, the default Bliss launcher is completely unusable.
Icons on the home screen randomly disappear, but reappear after a restart.
After placing icons in the dock, the entire dock just randomly disappeared.
Other random UX issues.
I long gave up on using Bliss as my launcher on a smart phone years ago because it was really bad. I just assumed that the Murena team would have fixed these issues over the ensuing 2 years, but they clearly haven’t.
Can you imagine what a non-tech person would think if they bought a Tablet from Murena and had to deal with Bliss??? It makes me wonder: Who is the target audience of Murena products???
Some issues on BlissLauncher 3 have been reported post 2.6.3 release. It seems the port of BL3 on both tablets and Android created some regressions which we need to address.
It is a work in progress as you can see, hopefully an update will come soon that kills some of the bugs.
Fortunately, Bliss Launcher (as of /e/OS v2.7) can receive updates through App Lounge.
And NO. The App lounge does not work either! (on a murena store device)
I have long given up on using the Murena app lounge and use a combination of F-droid and Aurora instead.
Opening the App lounge gives the error:
Account unavailable: The anonymous account you’re currently using is unavailable. Please refresh the session to get another other one.
I have deleted the app data, to no effect. Clicking on “Ignore” makes the messge go away. However, when you click on “install” for an app, either nothing happens, or you get a spinning circle of death.
So my question to the Murena team is: What do you expect your average iOS user to do if they migrate to Murena and can’t install apps?
As with Bliss Launcher, there is still much work to be done on the App Lounge.
I do see a lot of developer activity in recent weeks, so hopefully things will improve soon.
I have observed exactly the same phenomena on my Murena tablet with 2.6.3 and 2.7. Even when using other launchers (Fossdroid), Bliss caused problems in the background.
I was able to correct this by changing the settings for the automatic screen rotation / lock screen. Now it works perfectly.
All /e/OS community builds are created to the best of our knowledge and belief, but without any guarantee.
All Murena devices run with /e/OS version “Official stable” and have a maintainer. The buyer can therefore expect to acquire a fully functional device for a purchase price of around 500.00 euros. The fact that this is not the case does enormous damage to the reputation of /e/.
