Browser not sufficient for Samsung Health Login

Hi,

I am a happy user of /e/OS 2.8 on my Samsung Galaxy S8.

I have found one issue though that is related to using Samsung’s own Health App.

It is possible to install it in App Lounge and also run it, but it is not possible to log into Samsung account which is required to use the app.

Steps to reproduce:
(1) Install Samsung Health App on phone,
(2) Run Samsung Health App,
(3) On main screen of app, touch “Anmelden” button (“Register”). Internet browser is launched.

OBSERVED BEHAVIOUR
(3) Samsung App shows “Nicht unterstützer Browser” (“Unsupported Browser”)
“Das Samsung-Konto kann nur mit folgenden Browsern verwendet werden:”
(List of browsers follows).

What can I do?

One thing that sometimes help :
Tap the settings button next to navigation bar, select permissions and activate Javascript JIT

Have you tried one of the recommended browsers?

Maybe a microG-issue (?)
https://community.e.foundation/t/list-apps-that-work-or-do-not-work-with-microg

Or some other issue related to G-services required by the app … or blocked trackers (or other Advanced Privacy-feature) (?)

Is that row of numbers an error code? Try contact thd developpers of the app and ask for the meaning of it (?)

Above all, I, too, have the question in mind if you already have tried the recommended browsers.

Recently I had a similar problem with a public transport app. The public transport app’s support recommended a Chrome-based browser and advised against Firefox. I tried three different browsers (/e/OS/ browser, Brave and, omg, Google Chrome :face_vomiting:). None of them did the job. After a recommondation from the community I gave Firefox a try, et voilà, the login was suddenly possible.

In short terms: Give Firefox a try, even if it shouldn’t be on said list!

Thanks for this, but it did not solve the issue.

Some more detailled information:

The apps do not refuse to work. The Samsung Health App says the browser is not sufficient to enter the account credentials.

Here is a list of browsers Samsung Health claims to accept:

  • Samsung Internet
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • QQ Browser
  • UC Browser
  • Sogou Browser
  • 360 Browser
  • Safari
  • Chromium
  • Brave
  • Microsoft Edge

The number line at bottom of page is a Code to be sent to customer service (which one is not clear… I guess Samsung…)

I have installed Samsung Internet for a check and then yes, I can enter the account settings for Samsung Health. But that is not what we like to have…

From that list I’d use brave in case firefox does not work and only for the use of said app if I’d really need it…

You might doublecheck with said apps customer service to get more specific info about what exactly they don’t like about the browser and then open a gitlab issue for the eOS-browser so the devs can check whether it is possible or wanted to tweak the browser according to the needs of said app. Maybe it is just a minor tweak, maybe it is not wanted at all for good reasons (like leak of private data or else)…

I have installed Samsung Internet Browser and set /e/ OS to use this app as standard browser.

Now Samsung Health App can be started - it just wants to log into Samsung Account online, nothing else. So I enter my account credentials and health app logs in.

BUT: after that process, when actually starting the app over again to use it, it says “Einrichten der App nicht möglich - Serverfehler aufgetreten. Versuche es später erneut (0x2F#131072)”.

(“Setup of app not possible - server error encountered. Try again later.”)

BTW the Samsung Support Chat does not know about my first error ID listed at top of thread.
It seems it is also reluctant to help when mentioning (Honest John here) that a custom ROM is installed.
