I have an FP5. I make photos and cannot store the geolocation. This is needed for the app ObsIdentify. If I use the app ObsIdentify and take a picture from there, then the geolocation is stored. I want to use the first option, so I can store in Obs later. Otherwise I use Obs all the time and my phone runs out of battery too soon.
the camera App does record the geoloc, but on sharing it gets removed, depending on the permissions of the destination app (it needs ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION).
Interesting. I didn’t know that. I cannot change the app to keep and send the geo location, but strange enough I found the option: install the original FP5 camera app. After that I can choose between the open source camera app and the FP5 camera app, where the latest one works as I want.
help me understand. What is then the workflow? you take the photo in FP5 camera app and choose the share button within that app to share to ObsIdentify and geoloc is preserved?
Yes, almost. The camera app opens the gallery app when you click on the photo you just made. From the gallery app you share the photo to the ObsIdentify app.
Reading another topic here about the camera. It says geolocation is optional. Have a FP6 andere the same problem with ObsIdentify. It wouldn’t upload because location was missing. When I took a picture on the app itself it went alright. So I went into the settings of the camera app, upright, the little sliders. And there I found that Location settings default is switched off. After I switched it on it works as expected in ObsIdentify.
Hi Jeroen70, thank you for this post. This also works on my FP5, so now I can also work with the OS camera app and the FP camera app, to take pictures and store the location, then send it to ObsIdentify.
