Hi, the FP5 /e/ OS had been working well with my (french provider FREE) SIM card for a few months, but recently I cannot receive calls any more! There no is display saying “call from…”, it is not ringing, and the call goes directly to provider’s answering machine. I thought it was a network problem and told my provider Free. They ran a few tests and suggested a network reset on android (e OS), which I did, no result.
(it has to be said that all other connexions, mobile network SMS, mobile internet still work with the same SIM!)
There is no “do not disturb” activated and the APN settings seem as suggested by the provider.
BUT: When I put my SIM into another phone, it does ring and I can take the call !! And the FP5 with another SIM card doesn’t ring either, so it does seems phone-related! Have any of you come across a similar problem? Could it be hardware or software-related? Thanks for any ideas !
Do you have VoLTE enabled in the mobile settings?
Cant find it in my system settings. What exactly is it?

It should be located in Network & Internet > Sims > Enable VoLTE (or 4G Calling, or similar).
On phones I have used, the VoLTE setting doesn’t appear unless you have the SIM inserted, and then only if the manufacturer of your phone has had it certified for VoLTE calls with the carrier you’re using. (I don’t imagine the Fairphone 5 would suffer from that last caveat.)
Has Free made any changes to their network lately, e.g. shutting down 3G or 2G?
Wow! Disabling “4G calling” did indeed fix the problem of the phone not ringing! (As to why not getting notifications for messages on my voicemail, I’ll check with my provider.) Thanks a million Taurus. Long live the community and Free Software!

The usual situation is x network shuts down (or starts shutting down in some areas) 3G bands and 2G bands, necessitating that phones then use Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) as the new “telephony.” It’s a later technology that carries calls over the 4G/LTE network, and is not the same as simple 4G/LTE data.
Once 2G and 3G don’t exist anymore, or have been reduced to only sparse coverage, only VoLTE can be used for calls.
If your Fp5 only works without VoLTE enabed, then it’s using remnants of the 2G/3G network to provide calls. That’s a problem, since those bands are going away. So you do indeed seem to have a problem with the Free SIM if VoLTE is not working.
From which network was that second SIM?
2nd Sim was From Free as well. It should be noted that both are not in France but in Belgium, roaming…
