Can't install F-droid apps anymore

Hi,
I installed /e while ago. It did worked fine at the beginning. At some point I could not install any F-droid apps anymore. Also OS update did not work anymore. I had to manually search for it. I can’t remember if it didn’t found any or could not download them (but it was clearly out of date, more than 3 versions behind). Normal browsing did worked fine. Now I haven’t used it anymore for some months. Today I tested it again and the new update showed up in news. The updates worked!

However installing F-droid apps still don’t work. How can this be fixed? I may have done some setting which prevent that. I installed AppArmor but it is not active right now. I also forbid apps running in background.

I’m testing it with installing VLC player in F-Droid. I can click install but it does not download anything. I is stuck at 0%.

After a long time of not using it can be that the brainless “unused apps” algorithm did remove permissions from a number of apps, so also from your F-Droid-Client. There’s a so called “advanced” permission for app stores called “Install unknown apps”, this must be switched ON because this is the job of an app store, but the default is OFF. Check this in the Settings of your F-Droid-client.

this option was already set to allowed.
But it is actually working now! It did work after the very recent /e OS update.
So does this mean installing applications does only work with the most recent OS version?
It took very long to update to the current version. It took over 10 OS update iterations.
One update to the most recent wound be nice to have.

Don’t think so. The non-function has other reasons but we’ll probably never find it out. (Sure, you never have a good feeling if something suddenly works and you don’t know why …)

That would not be a certainty.

The F-Droid difficulty may well have just been a hiccup caused by the same combination of difficulties that prevented update (??) and just as said by @irrlicht. I guess I am thinking that you may have started at an early stage of the transition to /e/ version 3.

Updates of /e/OS are all “whole system”, so when updates are missed we can jump /e/OS versions … but must take care to make Android version upgrades in a planned way.

I suggest the thing to watch for now is that you understand the update / upgrade path for your device, so that you stay regularly updated.
