Certain apps will not install through App Lounge

Hello,

Certain applications cannot be installed on my Fairphone 5 with Murena /e/OS, using the App Lounge. Examples are Waze, TomTom: GPS Maps & Traffic, and ParkMobile.
These are all apps which use GPS, but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it, because e.g. WhatsApp installed fine, despite it also being able to use GPS.

All these apps are from the Play Store. Apps from F-Droid etc install fine.

I have stopped App Lounge and cleared cache + storage.
I have used the anonymous Google account, my ā€˜old’ Google account, and a new dummy Google account. All with the same result.

When I click the application in App Lounge, I see a spinning ā€˜loading spinner’, I guess. I cannot see any information of the apps. Clicking ā€œInstallā€ in the apps list, results into the button changing to ā€œRetryā€.

I have created a workaround for some of the apps, by installing the APK through APK Mirror manually, but I now don’t get any updates for these apps.
When I have installed the APK of one of these apps, the button does change from ā€œInstallā€ or ā€œRetryā€ to ā€œOpenā€, but the details of the application are still not viewable (i.e. only the spinning loader indicator).

Do you run the latest /e/OS 3.1.4 on your device?

No. I used the web installer for FP5, and the currently installed version is 3.1.1-a14-20250828521479-official-FP5. I installed it about a week and a half ago.
The OS says that there are no new updates for /e/OS. Last checked: September 28, 2025.

ETA
Seeing that there are newer versions for both A14 and A15 (here), I guess this is an issue in itself…?

Your comment is along the lines of App Lounge cannot show or install many "common" apps (#8738) Ā· Issues Ā· e / Backlog Ā· GitLab.

Please also check also some current app-lounge threads.

@jaharkema the gist to look for in linked threads is spoofing another device profile, see that Aurora users selecting a Pixel 9 or Nothing phone

@aibd The OP of that issue is 100% what I am seeing as well. Thanks for linking to that issue.

I will install Aurora Store and change the spoofing profile.

Adding to the /e/OS version: I am not sure if it’s coincidental (probably), but I just got a notification that 3.1.4 is available for me now, and I did install it. Didn’t fix the issue though.

ETA
Spoofing as another phone in the Aurora Store does make it at least possible to install updates for my apps, so that’s nice.
I’ll try to get an account in the Gitlab environment, and when I have managed that, I’m fine with continuing the discussion over there, if more info is needed.
