Check if you can send SMS?

Hi everyone. I’m currently trying to install e/OS on my new phone. But I’m not really sure what’s meant by this warning:

Make sure that you can send and receive SMS and place and receive calls (also via WiFi and LTE, if available), otherwise it will not work on /e/OS as well.

What does “make sure” mean in this context? Do I have to put the SIM in while I install, or something?

I still have to wait until the OS supports the security build I’m on, unfortunately, but I’d like to get this done ASAP anyway… Using FP5.

the context of “making sure” those functions work is the stockrom prior to flashing. So the network provider has seen your device IMEI at least once with a certified OS and will allow it on its network. That said…
