hi!
seems everything of the installation guide at Install /e/OS on a Nothing Nothing CMF Phone 1 - “tetris” went fine here, but the sh-scripts are not executing.
fastboot devices> shows <long number fastboot>, but then we are stuck with <INFO: Looking for connected devices>.
Phone seems to be as described under 3. in the install manual in < => FASTBOOT MODE > (displayed on screen).
[Maybe to correct?: On the page it says “select Volume Up to confirm selection” but on the device screen it says “Volume_UP to select Volume_DOWN is OK”].
what can we do?
THANK YOU!
Which /e/OS version are we talking about?
- community-tetris
- official-tetris
It’s the community version.
I took from here: /e/OS community tetris download
Was not aware of two different versions.
Where to find the official?
What are the differences?

To understand the difference between /e/OS builds check this guide
Thanks!
As I just saw:
The (easy) Installer option must have been recently added for the Nothing CMF Phone 1 (Maybe the official build also?)
https://doc.e.foundation/devices
Can I use the Installer from where I am at?
Can I use the Brave Browser being based on Chrome?
Same issue with the official build.
“fastboot devices” brings a result but “adb devices” none.
what is the OS running on your PC ?
debian 12 testing
could also use other distros on other pc devices
so, no Windows driver issue…
fastboot only works in fastboot / bootloader mode,
when
adb only works in normal system mode or on recovery mode
same issue with the (easy) installer on brave browser
The same requirements are always needed for installation, whether Linux or Windows:
-
a (premium) USB-C cable for data transfer (a USB cable for charging only is not suitable);
-
host machine with USB 2.0 primary port;
-
functioning connection via ADB Fastboot.
got the following error messages in the installer:
and:
“Error on step: connect-bootloader
Cannot execute command connect bootloader
[…]”
And stuck on the phones “fastboot mode” screen again.
On three different laptops+OSs - all debian based.
Trying fedora, arch or alpine will not make the difference i guess.
/e/OS-U (A14) is based on Android 14. Downgrade to NothingOS 2.6 (if you are using Nothing OS 3.0) before installation to avoid problems.
Not to be misunderstood: “Being stuck” here means, the installation process is not continuing. I am getting out of fastboot mode screen by pressing power + volume up buttons longer.
“Check […] that no other program is using the phone” … Could there be a conflict of Android Studio and SDK PlatformTools both being installed on the PC?
Booting up the phone shows
“Orange State … OS Not Being Verified Or Custom OS. Dismiss After 5 Seconds”
but as I was reading, this only indicates that the bootloader is unlocked.
There is no intervention useful at this point of the boot process, is there?
Another thought was about the rights management on the PC.
But “chmod +x” should give all rights in the folder (no matter what), right?
So I am having the same problem trying to install from terminal as with the installer from the browser. Does that possibly hint to the cause of the problem?
Trying the install by terminal, I am getting the information on phone screen that the phone uses the “BOOT SLOT: _b”.
Confer here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/ncure3/what_is_your_boot_slot/
Could these circumstances cause the halt of the device flashing?
This is to make the script executable. You might check that the script is executable with
ls -al
Did you also verify the download by use of the checksum?
Now over all I tried to install from terminal:
IMG-e-2.8-a14-20250224470211-community-tetris
IMG-e-2.8-a14-20250219469961-official-tetris
IMG-e-2.7-u-20250109460370-official-tetris
“-rwxr-xr-x” are the given rights for the script “flash_tetris_factory.sh”.
Yes I verified the download by use of the checksum.
phone is on android version 14 and nothing os version 2.6
I updated (on the phone) to the latest version of Android 14/ Nothing OS 2.6, but it didn’t help with the problem of not being able to flash the /e/OS-image to the phone (in the browser installerwise stuck at “Installation 9/16 completed”).
I also did a full :(google)-setup. Didn’t solve anything.
all given.
the cable is the one that came with the phone. should be fine since “fastboot devices” and “adb devices” etc. detected the device, right?
i’ll try another cable …
there are on the phone the options “usb controlled by a. connected device b. this device”. Which option is the preferred/necessary?
