Hello everyone, like GrapheneOS E/OS can it integrate a constrained password that can allow all of the data on the phone to be deleted?
This is really a great option for privacy and for so many different cases.
Do you have a question?
Yes it’s a question, how with E/OS which is for the respect of private life can we set up a dedicated password when unlocking the phone which would delete all the data from the phone?
As Graphene OS offers something like this I would like to know how to do it with E/OS, or when will it be integrated?
I am far from judging people but privacy is one thing and a desire to wipe out all data in some sort of ‘freak emergency’ is another.
How about e/OS having a tiny nuclear explosive for an EMP to be triggered with some doomsday password which will definitely wipe all out and maybe the nosy perpetrator as well?
I bet that would make some users happy?
I am joking of course and I bet graphene OS doesn’t have it (yet).
They could nickname it Snake Plissken phone ![]()
I understand your point of view, on the other hand this is a really great thing, whether in classic or abnormal situations it is really a superb invention. I am an E/OS user and knowing that GraphenOS offers this in improving privacy is really great and therefore in this logic seeing that E/OS is part of improving privacy this is really a necessary option.
Privacy equals controls on our data, our data is private and must remain so, so I’m looking for this constraint password option on E/OS
My mind boggles. Why ‘necessary’!?
And now, it is not something to be taken personally, I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable after what I am going to say here only for a sake of an academic discussion…
I could joke and say “are you a spy?”, but, no, I will point out thst one can always find a way to wipe your data out of the portable device if the need.
What bothers me, forget any ‘freedom of choice’, but that would make a perfect, for example “paedophile phone”.
I do understand that You are just privacy obsessed.
Maybe you can try this:
Indeed, without mentioning the people using this illegally, I confirm that I am enormously obsessed with privacy.
For me, a smartphone must be a private life product, as in our native life, everyone is hidden and nobody’s business.
Of course, currently there is no real complete solution for a smartphone to be 100% private and anonymous.
In terms of application I am very restricted, Threema in messaging and permanent use of Alias for email.
SO this restricts a lot in terms of communication, however this is why I am interested in the constraint password which would add an additional privatization.
So I repeat my request, GrapheneOS having natively brought this, which is also dedicated to private life, does E/OS have it too? If not, when will it be incorporated?
Thank you for the future response from the E/OS developers
Thank you, I will look at that, even if I prefer it to be native without having to always install more applications
You have always factory re-set there if you need it…
I mention this so that it is automatically launched on the phone unlock password.
With a gun to your head, or a boarder guard, or a police officer in front of you asking for your unlock pin, you do not have possibility to unlock and go to
→ setting → system → reset options
Give the erase all code could be a amasing option.
(even data security is not the main goal of the /e/ project, but simply avoid online data collection)
Thanks for that point @piero . I did think of mentioning to @grzecel that some of us in the UK never experienced being on the wrong side of a regime with fixed ideas.
Thank you for restoring the situation, however there may still be other situations that would cause us to be in need of all erased.
A person who attacks you asks for your code and leaves with your phone can access banking information, or even depending on each person who stores information such as identity can lead to identity theft etc…
Many of people do not seem to have experienced certain critical situations or even without having experienced them imagine that the world is a sweet dream with care bears.
This option is for the security
With the gun to your head wiping out the data will be the last of your problems Piero.
And it might be reasonable rather to make sure it’s not deleted and hand the unlocked phone over IMO.
And personally I think You got a bit carried away with this particular example.
With the arm of law wanting to check your phone we get on the slippery ground here…
Unless you are a freedom fighter who decided to keep sensitive data on your phone and tens of lives depend on keeping it secret, which I doubt, it is quite dubious what you say. I am not convinced Piero the option on the phone can be classed as necessary.
Normally you politely decline and that may put you in trouble anyway, forget wiping all out.
I think people go over the top requesting that sort of functionality.
Get an app, one was suggested earlier in this topic.
There is also this companion app to Wasted (which is mentioned in your link to Wasted): Duress | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository
There are many types of people who might need such functionality, e.g. journalists, attorneys, activists; see: Activist charged with felony after giving border agent "duress code" that wiped his phone - Ars Technica … and https://www.itv.com/news/update/2013-08-19/reporters-partner-had-electronics-confiscated-at-airport/
Especially considering the current political climate here in the U.S.
And this one is interesting too :
I bet they know where to get a dependable app on the phone that does the job Mate.
No doubt. I would just go with one of the apps from F-Droid myself, too.
