I want to customize the gallery app. Although I believe I know the answer (“can’t do that”) I want to write it as a question. Perhaps there is a way to do it, but I did not find it on the web.
What do I want (need) to do?
Get rid of all the album cover images from the Music folder. They simply clog the gallery and serve no purpose outside the MP3 player.
Hide a folder (temporarily) with images that shall not be visible to others when I lend my phone.
I am aware that the creation of a .nomedia file can hide a folder, but this does not work for 1) and neither for 2), because that will also hide the MP3 files as well and it is cumbersome to lift.
I am also aware that I can hide a folder “forever” by changing it’s name so it starts with a full stop, but that is cumbersome as well.
On my older Fairphone 2 I used Simple Gallery which served me well, but I try to stick to as many generic apps as possible now that I use a FP 6 with Murena. Simple Gallery can do custom include and exclude on folder level and hide a folder using a PIN code.
So, to put it in a nutshell: Is customization possible for Murenas stock gallery at all? Or is it that I have to use Simple Gallery again?
As far as I remember the stock gallery app has no or almost no options to customize something.
So if you have (like any other user) personal interests and expectations you should use another gallery app. Instead of Simple Gallery which is not FOSS anymore you can use Fossify Gallery (from F-Droid) which is a FOSS fork of Simple Gallery. If you’re open to use something different try Aves (from F-Droid).
Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I realized there was a change in Simple Gallery, as there exists a “Pro” paid version as well. But the free version was at least available.
With Draw that is not the case. Simple Draw does not (unlike Simple Gallery Pro) immediately charge something, which is not possible without a Google account, but it starts with a screen “start trial period” - but that button does not do anything ? It simply hangs. Is there a FOSS fork of it as well? And how about Simple Calendar? Many thanks…
Yeah, but the “free” version is not open source anymore. So nobody can be sure anymore what ridiculous crap is now included. So it comes that it has idiotic 11 (!) trackers now. And if you want to get rid of the trackers they allow you to buy the pro version.
Simple Draw is something else. It has never been a part of that apps suite made by Simple Mobile Tools which long have been FOSS and aren’t anymore now. Simple Draw is provided by Simply Ltd., it has never been FOSS and has that’s why no FOSS fork. This means you should use something else.
I suggest to use an F-Droid-Client to search for a FOSS drawing app. F-Droid provides these ones.
