Data Broker selling movement profiles

Hey everyone,

on a German Politics&Tech-News-Site they reported about a Data-Broker who is selling complete Movement Profiles from citizen. The Data includes people who are working for the goverment.

Quite creepy to see how much information they got.

As far as I can see there is no English version by the author avaible.

currently there are 2 published articles in english:

• Data Broker Files: How data brokers sell our location data and jeopardise national security
  (has an overview on published articles at the end)
• Under Surveillance (public broadcaster)

There’s a nice lookup query in there to check if an AD_ID is in the dataset, but as the dataset is limited to Germany, a translated / international version could be misleading.

On for how microg behaves towards Apps requesting the advertiser ID, there’s a recent comment that explains it well:

• AD: Changing the initial configuration by DaVinci9196 · Pull Request #2403 · microg/GmsCore · GitHub - “microG behavior matches Google’s description for when ad tracking id is removed by the user.”
• Unique Identifiers (Calyx could carry additional patches, I haven’t checked yet)

(and general microg and /e/ docs on Google connections and identifiers. The Android ID went through a longer history - the AD_ID is separate)
