I’ve had a Teracube 2e for two years now. For the first year it seemed to work well enough, although also I was often in an area with poor coverage so it did not always work…but hey, that’s how it goes, right?
Several months ago I moved to a place with better cell coverage. Most of the time the phone worked pretty well, however there were occasional days–often more than one in a row–where the internet connection was either poor or nonexistant. The cell connectivity during these times was the same as the times when it worked fine–two to three bars, sometimes four.
I am using Straight Talk on the AT&T network. At first i thought these bad days were just “what happens when more people use the network and I get bumped to last priority”. And I haven’t ruled this out.
However I also came upon a thread from five years ago where someone said that teracube 2e’s don’t interface well with the AT&T network. Does anyone have experience with this? Is this still the case? Was my problem all along that I was using AT&T and not, say, T-Mobile?
The 2e is a 4G LTE phone no 5G (fifth generation). This is a guess but AT&T probably focuses more bandwidth toward 5G now?
The Pixels starting at the 4g5a and above are 5G compatible. They can be found on the used market for very reasonable prices. Might be time to upgrade.
In case you don’t know this (many users don’t) you should always enable WiFi calling for better coverage. It uses the WiFi network as opposed to cell towers for calls and data.
I’m surprised you haven’t received any automated nastygrams from AT&T saying calls are disabled for you until you “upgrade” your device. Are you sure your Straight Talk account is using the AT&T network and not T-mobile?
I did wonder whether this was just a “not enough cell network hardware” issue…and I do wonder if I am losing connection because someone who has “actual” AT&T is getting priority over my straight talk AT&T.
But since my poor connection doesn’t really align with what kind of signal my phone is getting…wouldn’t that mean that the issue would have to be with the … I don’t know the right words here… the modems or whatnot that they are using? Basically the network capacity, but NOT the actual cellular signal, since that is often just fine when my connectivity is zero (and I can use the phone function just fine at these times, just not data).
My other reason for suspecting that it’s not the lack of 5G towers is that I live in a hilly, rural area where there is no 5G.Unless the lack of 5G capability is driving the incompatibility with the AT&T network software, somehow?
I am also surprised I’ve not received any autmated nastygrams! FWIW I did check Settings > About Phone > and the SIM Status for slot 1 (the only one with a sim card) is AT&T. So it does seem to be trying to interface…
I guess I will have to try T-Mobile and see if things improve.
Ask someone in with a newer phone in your area if they have 5G coverage. You should be able to look at AT&T’s coverage map too.
There are many thread in here about AT&T coverage shutdown, not sure the search terms to use but you should be able to find something about it with a search.
