I would like to open a discussion on the topic DAVx5 vs. MicroG.
Just to share our experiences and how we can improve and converge into a single app doing the same functionally.
I have been using both and…
DAVx5: its not so clear how to install calDav. Hen it’s not so easy to sync the contacts and calendar in one shoot…
Microg: installed for my grrroogle email only but finally it’s syncing contacts and address book too. Is it possible to sync email only?
Then which one is more secure? How are both synching data? Which encryption process are they using?
Thanks in advance for any useful feedbacks on this topic.
Hi there. When you sign in with your Google account on the phone it isn’t syncing with micro g bit actually using a forked version of davx5. If you keep clicking in settings>accounts then you will find it and you can add further accounts eg calendar
That’s not the same. microG does no syncing of contacts and calendar. To sync Google contacts and calendar you need either Google Sync Adapter (not included with /e/ but is available with microG packages like NanoDroid or MinMicroG) or something like DAVx5.
If your Google contacts and calendar are being synced then it’s probably as @xander2m said. Once you added your Google account that info was probably passed to the /e/ Account Manager (a fork of DAVX5). Are you seeing this data in the Contacts and Calendar apps?
If that is not.the case.then you need to be clearer. Simply put, microG does not do nor does it have syncing capabilities.
Of course if you added your Google Account to the system via microG then any (working) Google app will have access to your Google data, including your contacts and calendar i suppose. Maybe? Please elaborate.
