Default search choice not persistent

After some time my default search choice (duck duck) reverts to espot when searching via the launcher widget. Default search within browser app remains duck duck go.

Any thoughts?

Just to add, simply opening and closing the /e/ browser settings page causes the launcher to return to my search choice
